Shinji Mikami’s Next Game Is Vanquish

By Spencer . January 29, 2010 . 12:45am

Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, and Atsushi Inaba are working on Platinum Games’ next title, Vanquish.

The clip doesn’t say much about the game, especially because it has live actors instead of gameplay footage. Platinum Games worked with Logan, a Los Angeles advertising firm that produced live action Metal Gear Solid 4 ads like this Ravensword video, to make this Vanquish teaser. Wait, given the connection the game may not even be called Vanquish at all.

Sega, which published most of Platinum Games titles are associated with Vanquish.

No word on the platform, but I’ll bet it’s a 360/PS3 game.

And for that matter, right now it seems like it will be a standard shooter game. Althought the clips where we look inside the helmet remind me of MDK, which is always a good thing.

Yeah, 360/PS3 seems pretty likely. Some scenes briefly even looked like they could be gameplay.

If it is, I wonder if Sega’s doing PS3-port duties again…

Should have just called it “Generic Science Fiction Shooter #407”

    • malek86

That can be said for pretty much any genre out there.

    • cocytusx

As opposed to what? Generic japanese rpg #628? Generic music game with plastic instrument #16236? Generic dissing post about non released game with no listed genre/gameplay info?

      • kupomogli

I think there are far more generic shooting games than any other type. Just what we need. Another shooter for a genre that is atleast 50% or more shooters.

        • malek86

Nah, they are actually pretty even. It’s mostly a matter of time periods. During the 32/64-bit era, generic platformers were all the rage. The 128-bit era brought with it generic button mashers. And now we’re getting generic shooters. It’s just that, as the market gets bigger, the number of similar games becomes more noticeable. In the next generation, we’ll get generic #insertgenrehere#.

Interesting mix of CG and a bit of live action, especially at the end. Good job Logan, now show me the game Mikami.

  • capristrider

Generic futuristic solider, ala, Halo, Fallout 3 and countless other titles I can’t remember.

There is something about a faceless solider that is appealing to both east and west maybe

Maybe Shinji is using left over concepts, artwork from P.N.03 which he design and made for the GameCube?

  • jarrodand

    Makes me want PN04. :(

  • badmoogle

Exactly what the industry needs.Another shooter (and even worse with a Halo inspired art style.)

wow why are people being so melodramatic about getting another shooter? We haven’t even seen any real gameplay and people are already moaning ‘omg so generic!’. I’d LOVE to see the responses if this was an RPG (Specifically a JPRG of course).Anyway the trailer was pretty sweet, I love the live action… Now for some real info on this game lol. Speaking of live action trailers, the advertisements for the PMCs in MGS4 were really awesome. My favorite was the Praying Mantis PMC. Actually, I loved all of them. I loved how the Octopus one was in French. :0

Wow why are people so melodramatic complaining about other people complaining?Trailers are very indicative of what games are about otherwise there wouldn’t be a point in making them. The trailer indicates that the game is going to be a shooter and many people are fed up with this shooter generation.Everyone agrees that there are way too many shooters in the market, way more than any other genre. And your analogy doesn’t really work because JRPGs don’t hold even 10% of all the games released on the market today. The definition of generic also differs depending on individual experience with a subject. For you this trailer may give you the impression that this will be the most innovative and complex shooter ever made but for others it just screams generic.Anyone could be wrong and anyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.

Sorry, what did you say? I could barely hear you over all the bullcrap.
