If you want to have the authentic feel for Ys, play the PC versions. Granted, it's hard to come across a legit copy of Ys I on the PC-8801, but it's TOTALLY worth it.

I just don't really care for the Nintendo ports personally because:

A. The music is generally weaker

B. The difficulty is easier

C. Buggy

It has been this way since the Famicom ports. I'm not really sure why, but the Nintendo Ys titles have always paled in comparison to the PC originals. Hell, even the PS2 remakes did better than the Nintendo ones, lol.

In "recent" events, that would be Ys I&II Eternal remake for PSP being much better than the DS remake. More features, better music, better difficulty, great animation, voices, etc. That DS remake was a joke, lol.

I'll definitely end up picking up the port for OiF though. It will be nice to see Chester again, on handheld this time, lol. I wonder if this means we will EVENTUALLY get a port of Origins also. I just hope they could add Adol as a new playable character if they do make a PSP port though (since the only way you could play him in the PC release was through a hack :( ).

The Nintendo Ys ports were always buggy in some way or another, lol. I admit I chose it because the cover looked cool, but it turned out to become one of my most played games. I also admit I could never beat the last boss.

My nostalgic self yearned for a 2D side-scrolling remake but I'm sure the traditional Ys gameplay would be great, too! I couldn't bring myself to buy the PC version since PC games are soooo expensive in Japan. Yay to PSP and US prices!

Wanders from Ys (AKA Ys3) was my first Super Famicom game!
