Star Fox 64 3D is like holographic Star Fox. The E3 demo of took the first stage of Star Fox 64 and made Fox’s ship hover on top of the background. The level and enemies, in full 3D, scrolled toward me while I was playing firing lasers and flying between stone rings. The slide pad worked well, but having the d-pad for somersaults and u-turns felt a bit cumbersome. I had to stop flying for a split second to execute those maneuvers.
When I used boost Fox’s ship dived into the distance. Barrel rolls had an interesting effect. When I tapped R to do one, white gusts of wind surrounded the ship. Like Fox’s ship, the bursts of air were in front of the level, which made the air blast appear like sprites.
Star Fox 64 3D looks even better than the Nintendo 64 version. The textures are richer and the water looks fantastic. The demo ended right before the tank boss battle and didn’t have windows with Slippy begging you for help.
Yes, Star Fox 64 3D is a port, but the 3D effect fits perfectly.
