PlayStation Plus Subscribers In Japan Get These Items

By Spencer . June 29, 2010 . 8:11am

PlayStation Plus works a little different in Japan. In addition to discounts and special demos, subscribers get one free play title each month and three trial games. As long as you are a PlayStation Plus member you can play any free play games. Trial games expire after 30 days, but saved games still work, just in case you decide to purchase Minnya no Golf.

Here’s what Japan gets at launch.

Free play

Game Trial
Minnya no Golf (Hot Shots Golf with Toro)

Gekisou Tomarunner
Super Starstrike HD
Wipeout HD

Weekly ToroStation avatar pack 5

Priority Demo Access
Power Pro Baseball 2010

PlayStation Plus costs about the same price in Japan as it does here. 5,000 yen ($58) nets subscribers 365 days of LittleBigPlanet.

I have yet to see anything that makes this worth paying for. Sure for those just coming into the PSN the trials and what not may prove useful but for someone who has owned a PS3 since launch day, its not too enticing. Maybe the service will prover useful down the line, but at least the normal PSN services remain unchanged. It would be terrible if PSN+ turned non subscribers in to an Xbox Live silver equivalent.

Yeah, at the very least, they let us free members keep what was already there.

I’m also hoping for better, and more appealing games to eventually hit the free play/discount part of the deal…

Erm, what?! They only get one title as freeplay? That sucks in comparison to what we get (4 titles, 1 PSN game, 2 PSN Mini, and 1 PS1 game).

This is still better than what Singapore is getting. It’s cheap at S$6.99 per month but still…

    Full Game Trial—Hustle Kings
    Free Game—ZEN Pinball and Fieldrunners
Free Item—Fat Princess Red and Blue Premium Avatar
Discounted—Savage Moon, Killzone 2 Titanium Pack, Jet Moto
    Introductory offer—Age of Zombies

    PSN Plus is… kinda lame…

Its more or less just a digital video game rental service where you don’t get to choose what to rent every month.

Playstation Plus seems to be aimed for those who don’t OCD on buying games when they come out or become cheap, given the games that will be made available for the service.

Yet the paradox is that those OCD Playstation fans would typically be the ones to go for something like Playstation Plus, not those who don’t go out and buy as many games as possible.
