Tekken 6 Continues To Sell Strong In North America

By Spencer . August 5, 2010 . 8:39am

imageNamco Bandai posted sales numbers in their latest financial report and the top selling title for this period was Tekken 6. The fighting game sold 1,070,000 units in North America.

Taiko no Tatsujin Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle, the third Taiko no Tatsujin game for the Nintendo DS with a RPG-lite mode, took the number two spot with 170,000 units.

Ben 10 Alien Force 2 sold 110,000 units across multiple platforms, which is the same amount Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin The Lord of Elemental did on the Nintendo DS.

Well what do you know Tekken sure is doing well.

  • cowcow

I wonder how well their Tales games would do in America

    Oh wait….

    • Hraesvelgr

Not as well as Tekken, apparently.

  • Electrium

    That’s wild. I don’t know anyone who’s ever owned a Tekken game. >_>

    • Jellybit

Same. I’ve never met anyone who has bought a Tekken past Tag Tournament.

      • lostinblue

I third that. Past Tekken Tag Tournament, of course.

        • raymk

none of you people live in the tourney scene then. almost everybody i live near has tekken 5 DR and tekken 6 on ps3. I also no alot of people at college that has tekken 6 on xbox 360 so its no surprise. ALso most all of them bought it at the 60 dollar price tag and tekken 6 were i live is 40 bucks still.

          • lostinblue

Actually, I do, I know my country’s KoF champion, who pretty much only plays that, and I know a few fighting-game’tards who praise Tekken Tag Tournament like there’s no tomorrow (and always complain when they come over because I don’t have it)

They just don’t care about tekken after that, though.

  • Jellybit

How long is the “period”? A year? A quarter?

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

      Quarter, Q1 FY2010 specifically.

      • malek86

Wait, does that mean Tekken 6 sold a million copies this quarter alone?

That sounds… ludicrous. And well above my expectations. After all, the game has been out for a while.

Here’s a link to their report, in English.

          http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/files/E8A39CE8B6B3E8B387E69699EFBC88E88BB1EFBC892010201Q.pdf

The worldwide sales for Tekken 6 were reported, by Namco Bandai as 1.8 million on both platforms from last year’s full year report.

          • malek86

So now they’re standing at 2.8 millions. Well, that’s a lot of Tekken.

          • Jellybit

It’s surprising and impressive that they did so well last quarter against SSF4, especially for having been out for a while already.

Today is another day we see:
    - another small studio closing down
    - another big publisher getting more reasons to follow the usual path of established franchises & licensed games route

    Wow :/

  • Exand

Considering Tekken 6 has been on sale for $20 locally here for quite a while (since last year), I have to question whether they’ve made enough back on it.

  • ForeverFidelis

I guess some clowns get it to practice their skills..

    LOLZ GEETTIT??

I don’t know the game exactly. But as a game madder, I wanna to share with you this URL: http://www.pandamimi.com, from which I have bought the Red Dead Redemption, which tells the story of former outlaw John Marston, taking players on a great adventure across the American frontier. It’s really a very good game! You must try it once!

Funny, considering I just picked up Tekken 6 this week.
