Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Invades Xbox 360 And PS3 Next Spring

edfiGet ready to exterminate giant insects on two consoles. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is a multiplatform title. Vicious Cycle, not Sandlot, is developing the next Earth Defense Force game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. D3 Publisher acquired Vicious Cycle back in 2007. The studio went on to create Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard and most recently the Despicable Me video game.

While the series has a new developer, D3 promises the same kind of arcade style action as previous EDF titles. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon takes place in New Detroit, which has been overrun by alien ants. It’s up to you, armed with four types of armor and 150 different kinds of weapons, to kill everything in sight and blow up as many buildings as you can in the process. As a first for the series, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon has three player online co-op for the entire campaign mode. Vicious Cycle also created a six player survival mode where players fight through swarms and swarms of humongous bugs.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is slated for spring 2011 in North America. Here’s a look at some of the game’s angry giant ants.

Update: We have a teaser video too!

  • If it holds the epicness 2017 has, I am so getting it. XD

No Sandlot makes me more than wary.

    • I was skeptical at first, but after looking at the trailer I think they might actually pull it off. It looks nice and if they get the controls right it might be even better(!), but we’ll see.

This, and the new Disaster Report that doesn’t look insane… well, there’s no volcanoes or fish outside my window just yet.

    YES! PS3

Hope they put in a Gamora/Godzilla clone to battle

Troubling news indeed. Especially given how awful Matt Hazard was, I wonder why they did not keep the original dev? Perhaps Sandlot was not capable to developing a multiplat title.

That is one possibility, since Sandlot only has experience with the 360 and Wii.My suspicion is that, since they’re an independent company, and the last thing they did was Zangeki no Reginleiv… it might be possible they broke ties with D3 and are now doing something else for Nintendo or even a new company. Which is why D3 had to use a different developer to make the new game.

      • I don’t know about “breaking ties”. Nintendo and Sandlot worked together before on Chou Soujuu Mecha MG for the Nintendo DS, which came out before Earth Defense Force 2017, even before EDF3 in Japan.

Sandlot’s also worked with Square Enix, more specifically Enix, before on Robot Alchemic Drive so they’ve been around developing people vs. giants type games for other companies.

In Detroit? Time to bring in Robocop! Also, teaser trailer is very… Cloverfield-esque. That’s a good thing.

    Compare with Cloverfield teaser:

  • Has anyone seen my pimp juice? This game will be dope!
