In Japan, Nintendo are releasing a Mario Red Wii to celebrate their mascot character’s 25th anniversary. In addition to a Wii Remote Plus and all the other regular Wii hardware pack-ins, the Mario Red Wii bundle also comes with a special 25th anniversary version of Super Mario Bros. installed on the system.

The same bundle has now been confirmed for Europe, but with a few changes. The European bundle will include everything the Japanese bundle does, but will also come with a Wii Sports disc and the original edition of Donkey Kong pre-installed on the Wii, in homage to Mario’s first appearance.

The Mario Red Wii bundle will go on sale in Europe on October 29th. Before that, however, Nintendo are also releasing a New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo DSi XL Special Edition Pack on October 22nd, which consists of a red Mario-branded DSi XL and a copy of New Super Mario Bros.

Wow I can see the amount of units flying off store shelves now, Ninty must can smell the sound of euros going into their bank account…lol

That being said, I think the red is pretty nice. Its nice when comes break from the tradition of having Black and White as the only colors of systems (Wii) or not offering pack ins.

Red should’ve been one of the launch colors from the “Revolution” trailers, guess we’re finally getting it. I wish they would release the XL in the US too, I would like a bigger screen to play Layton.

Is this coming to America? I’ve been wanting a Wii and having an “odd” color would be nice.

If they sell this for the same amount as the old version over at VG++ I might consider as I´m starting to want a Wii, because it´s quite cheap and there are some games that look nice and I really want to play them.

So if this package is ever sold and comes at the same current price then who knows? Sounds like a good buy.

Oh, yes! Europe getting some love. =) Those are two preety sweet bundles. The Wii one is practically a bargain, considering the amount of content it comes with. That said, given how “up-to-date” the rest of the package is, I find it kind of peculiar that they would bundle in the original Wii Sports rather than Wii Sports Resort. Also, I hate to say it, but red looks kind of obnoxious on the Wii. =/ I mean, it’s good that there is another unconventional colour to choose from, but the black one seems much cooler.

The DSi XL bundle piqued my curiosity even more. Admittingly, it’s not quite a deal as the Wii bundle is. But while regular red isn’t quite as cool as burgundy, the colour still seems to match the DSi quite well and the logos on top are a nice touch. Originally, I was planning on getting a DS Lite as a contingency plan, in case the 3DS turned out to be region-locked, since the DSi offers nothing I would care about and the DS Lite has much better battery life. But considering this bundle and the fact that the DSi XL comes with a larger screen and a battery life that is almost as good as Lite’s, I might have to reconsider.

It’s a shame both of these are a Limited Edition release. By the time I decide to purchase either of them, they could very well run out. =(

Also, a note to Nintendo: RELEASE MORE BUNDLES OUTSIDE OF JAPAN! I LOVE bundles (primarily beacuse you actually get a game of your interest along with it), but there is a distinct lack of them for the Wii and DS (especially when you compare it to Nintendo’s previous systems). I hope you fix this, especially for the 3DS. I want a Ocarina of Time 3DS bundle (assuming you don’t region lock the 3DS), dammit!!! >:(
