Catherine Also Comes With An Art Book

By Spencer . December 9, 2010 . 4:50am

imageAtlus bumped the early bird bonus for Catherine up from a soundtrack CD to an art book and soundtrack disc.

First print copies of Catherine includes a sound disc with eleven tracks arranged by composer Shoji Meguro, a booklet with commentary about the songs from Meguro plus a making of the jacket illustration bit from character designer Shigenori Soejima. That picture of Catherine on the right is noted as a temporary design on the Atlus blog.

Maehara from the PR team also mentioned some of the feedback she heard about Catherine’s cover art. Most of responses are unsurprisingly "ero" or erotic.

Oh my fracking god. Damn you Atlus! You really want my money so bad?!

Edit: reposting what I found 2 days ago just in case anyone still doesn’t have it. Now without the famitsu watermark. ;3

  • Wow my nose started acting up when I looked at the cover…with that being said, the book cover looks pretty cool. Has Atlus even given artbooks with their stuff in the US? I know they did figures with Naruto and soundtracks with Persona but anything else tangible. It would be awesome if they emulate if they pursue bringing this out in the western world. Surely they wont treat America unfairly, hm?

    • Yeah that is what they mostly give, artbooks and soundtrack, the figures is new and the first time i see something like that… But Atlus has been different lately now that i think about it, (and a lot quieter) i hope its just my imagination.

    • I know the first release of Persona 3 came with an artbook. Have it nicely sitting on my shelf.

      • Sadly, the bundled artbook isn’t as complete as Persona 3 Official Design Works.
That’ll set you back quite a few dollars, but it’s more than worth it

    • The US branch usually does soundtracks packaged with the games and artbooks as pre-order bonus. -_- I should know.. I have (that comes to mind) the Eternal Poison artbook, Persona 3 & 4 artbooks (tho 3’s came with the original version on the PS2), and Luminous Arc 2. I might have some more, since everything’s still packed up. XD

If you look through the net, you’ll see they’ve done other stuff too, like t-shirts and dolls (for like the ultra-CE Amazon edition of Persona 4). There’s like 2 (that I know of) shirts for Persona 4 alone. XD The P3P got a Junpei baseball hat pre-order bonus. And then other games that have a special editions comes with their own little stuff, like keychains, buttons, laminated cards, strategy guides, posters, etc.

So, knowing the US branch and how much they love their faithful fans, whenever they do announce this, there’s a huge~~ chance there’s going to be an artbook pre-order bonus and sample soundtrack packaged with the game at least. Especially since the game packaged with the CD is their favorite thing the past few years.

  • I dont know if im more excited about the artbook/OST’s cover temporal design or about meguro’s comments… I DONT KNOW

    • Testsubject909

      Don’t seperate. Combine!

If any superhero show has thought you something is that everything is always better when it’s COMBINED!

So… OST + ARTBOOK, SUPER FUUUUSIIOOON!

      and your excitement should follow.

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

So an artbook that plays the ost while you flip through it? Or a cd that projects the images of art directly into your hypnotized brain as you play it?

        • Testsubject909

Do you want to be hands free while you look through the pictures of Catherine?

Think carefully about your answer here.

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Oooo that’s Naughtier than Naughty Dog.

          • lostinblue

and more explicit than a Team Ninja/Itagaki game.

      • That’s too much for my brain!! IS LIKE FUSING ALL CONSOLES INTO ONE

        • PersonaBull

You could do that! Just use the xbox360 as a base! hurrrrr

(note: I do have all 3 consoles and love them all almost equally. Well, not so much the Wii but you get my point)

          • lol, i dont have the xbox and dont plan to get it >80 but it do have some games i would like to try. And… wouldnt the xbox go paper thin because of the ps3? xD, i think the FAT ps3 is heavier than the xbox

          • PersonaBull

Haha, well I meant it as an overheating joke, actually. Put the other systems on the xbox360 and turn them all on, they’ll all meld together into one mega (and at that point useless) system!

            It was a lame joke…

But yea, the fat ps3 is definitely bigger. I also tend to prefer my PS3 when it comes to multi-platform games, so I don’t blame you for not droppin’ money on a 360.

          • lostinblue

Just use the RROD console as a base? You’re evil sir. (I wasn’t a fan of the PS2 reliability last gen either)

Or you mean the “base” as in… BASE MOLD? :P

  • I love every piece of art that comes out for this game. Shigenori Soejima has got to be one my favorite artists of all time.

So glad I decided to import this. Very excited to get my hands on this and the game in Feb!

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Cathy is pretty hot in that picture! More so than Kathy =O

    What is wrong with me.

Atlus will have to come up with a nice CE for us non-Japanese/non-Cathy importers. Artbook, soundtrack… And probably a pink condom.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Wait ’til Soejima shows you Kathy in a slinky black dress in that style…
But yea, I’m pro Katherine but that picture… *whistles* Nothing’s wrong with you.

Pink condom can only be for Catherine edition. Katherine editions needs a black one. :D

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Oh. OH. That would be… drool inducing, to say the least. Wait. No. It’s wrong. They’re pixels. And drawings. Hot ones (like Aya), but pixels and drawings nonetheless. But. Yes.

Oh boy xD That would be genious stuff! Wait for it to get announced, it’s just a matter of time.

        • I would like to say 2D > 3D, but it sounds so wrong. I need a reality check

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

            Take the blue pill.

          • Blue pill, red pill, at this point it doesn’t matter ヽ(´ー`)┌

            Just like Hideyoshi Kinoshita

          • [The Hunter] Doomrider

But it’s true! I never thought Cathy was hot, but that picture is amazing! And cover Kathy looks much better than her in-game model.

            Therefore, 2D>3D.

            (I know it’s a fallacy, disregard that)

          • No worries man, we all go through that phase at least once in our lives :3

I switched sides to Cathy fan club after seeing the 360 Catherine box art. That pose, that angle, that naughtiness, that…. You get the drift.

          • You have to see the world only god knows! (anime)

          • Point noted, I shall watch it after I’m done with Kamen Rider Double and Hyakka Ryouran. Thanks!

  • YOSH!!!
After this I want to see the Female characters of P5
Or a remake of P4 in HD in which Naoto(for the fans!!) or Yukiko(for myself)
Had there full image of there swimsuit!!!
I really want to see Naoto’s swimsuit image because of the result of her physical examination….

    • lostinblue

As much as I like Persona 4… I rather see them focusing on new games.

Porting it is fine, but putting it on either of the HD consoles would require a major reworking of the graphics, or even remaking it from the ground which is just… too much work for such a recent game.

It’s fine as it is, really. I’d only add 16:9 support.

  • I might just have to buy Catherine related stuff just because of the covers. Sexy yet classy.

  • pridesin

Atlus really knows how to please their fan.
I just hope them to do same for the U.S release.

  • neocatzon

are you sure it’s not a gravure book?

    • Tch tch tch neogranzon you naughty fella :P

  • cmurph666

Now, this is one Art Book I need to get my hands on~!

  • I hate you for your ability woo me into Catherine with your fabulous character designs, Soejima-sensei.

Another artbook to be in my collection

  • PrinceHeir

i love the artbook cover :D

companies should follow atlus and make a mini soundtrack and artbook in their first print games since it will definitely encourage alot of people to buy it.

  • urbanscholar

Music is always welcomed but risque(possible) art makes the combo all the better.

  • And there shall be much Fapping that night…

  • PersonaBull

I have faith in Atlus USA to have at least the soundtrack bonus. Atlus is very good to their fans here, so here’s hoping they go all out with the artbook as well! If the Japanese version had English subs I’d be tempted to snag it direct from Japan, but I doubt that and I’m an Atlus Faithful!

As I end every article comment about Catherine: I can’t wait for this game!

  • xxx128

Atlus is really getting good at marketing these days. I hope it pays off for them!

  • Aoshi00

I wish I could go w/ Play-Asia or Y-A, but definitely need to go w/ NCSX to ensure the artbook/soundtrck combo for both Catherine and Last Story, I can’t take any chances.

If I order both the PS3 and 360 ver and have two sets of bonus, would somebody like to buy the artbook/soundtrack from me so I could recoup a little cost :)?

BTW, I got rid of my US copy of Metroid Other M (amazon trade-in valued jumped from $11 to $19.50! I figure not bad) and got the Jpn dual track version from AmiAmi for $55, now I feel better :) Was thinking of keeping the US ver for the cover art, but I don’t think it’s needed..

    • If you do get both versions, I don’t mind taking one of those sets off your hands. Can’t get the game at launch and I’m sure the bonuses will be gone by the time I can.

      • Aoshi00

Cool, but I’d have to see, seriously considering if I should double-dip w/ so many releases in the next 2-3 months, as enticing as the 2 different covers are.. I just want to recoup some cost if the bonuses for two versions are exactly the same (or are they so devious pulling a NMH paradise w/ different bonuses?) Not sure if people would just buy the bonus on ebay either.. The thing is when the US ver does come out, there’s a chance it would have reversible cover too, then I’m screwed.. my original plan was to import the PS3 ver and then get the US ver on 360, now they’re pulling this 2 cover thing, sneaky..

        • Has the US version been confirmed? I’ve been so busy, I haven’t really had time to check up. Just happened to come across this during my break.

          • Aoshi00

That’s the thing, it hasn’t been, “yet”, hence the dilemma, but chances are very good considering the Western setting in the game, and Atlus usually brings over their games. I don’t expect dual track though that’s why I’m importing first. Just don’t want to triple dip unnecessarily (we’re talking about 80 bucks, exchange rate is horrible now), but don’t want to miss out on either over.

          • I want to say there’d be no problem with disk space, but I keep forgetting that it’s a multiplatform release (despite drolling over the two covers I just found). I don’t exactly remember the space limits of the 360, but I guess there’s also the possibility of lip syncing like with FF13, though I’m not sure of whether or not Atlus US would actually go that far or whether they’d even need to.

          • Aoshi00

I would love them to do that, that way both version would be different and worth owning, but I doubt they would do Eng. lip syncing for US release, so far only ambitious releases like FF13 or MGS4 did it. It’s really not a matter of space limit though, I can’t imagine this game being that big, also 360 has many games that are dual track or more, like Alan Wake has 7 in-game audio and text. I just don’t think they would do it if it’s like past Persona games or some JRPGs this gen, some do some don’t you never know, it’s a toss up. I didn’t think they would do it for Lost Odyssey or Sin & Punishment 2 but they did, if I knew I wouldn’t have imported them before the US release. I wanted them to have dual track for Metroid Other M or Castlevania LotS but they didn’t (surprisingly the Jpn ver of Other M has both Jpn and Eng text and audio which I just found out 2 days okay when someone mentioned it here showing me a youtube video, so now I just got the Jpn copy and getting rid of my US copy, I was planning to double dip anyway, but having both tracks in one complete ver is the best). For most of the PS2 RPGs, I do own both the Jpn and US ver, like Persona 3 & 4.

  • It ought come with a box of tissues, don’t ya think?

  • The soundtrack will be epic!
Shojio Meguro’s works are amazing! Especially in Persona 3 and 4!
