Whoa, That’s A Lot Of Parts For The Little Battlers

By Spencer . December 14, 2010 . 1:29am

Level-5’s next big series is The Little Battlers. There’s an anime, manga, and PSP game slated for March 17. What kind of game is it? A plastic model craft RPG, says Level-5.

They mean it. The Little Battlers comes with a plastic model and has plenty of customization options. This newly released trailer says there are over 2,500 parts in the PSP game to collect.

In addition to changing the appearance of their LBX, players have a variety of attacks. Lightning Lance, Storm Sword, Impact Kaiser, and the hunting rifle which turns fights into something like Silent Scope. Battles in The Little Battlers are real-time fights.

Like many PSP games, The Little Battlers has multiplayer modes. Level-5 says the game has competitive and cooperative play, but only show a bit of a LBX on LBX versus battle.

So far, The Little Battlers has not been announced for North America. Hopefully, we’ll see it before 2050 when the LBX craze is in full swing.

I’m really excited for it. Looking to be a cross between Gotcha Force and Medarot… Well, I guess that would be also describe Custom Robo, if you ignore dates.

But still, they’re all things I really love, and a ton of customization options is definitely a plus for me. A couple hundred parts is great, a couple thousand parts is just wonderful.

It’d be great if the anime got off the ground, too, even if I’m mostly interested in the game. It looks a lot like the Gotcha Force anime that never was.

Also Square-Enix’s PS2 game Heavy Metal Thunder

    • Code

Maan, I want this game bad, there really hasn’t been any games, full of customizable robots like this in awhile to fill that void TwT; I’m just hoping for english release T_T Seriously though 2,500 parts would be so awesome TwT

  • Man, it’s like building virtual gunpla! So far this looks better than Busou Shinki Battle Rondo

    • I’d love to see a game where we build virtual Gunplas…and do battle…That would be awesome. Imagine the army of custom-made Gundams!

      • I shall destroy your Zaku army with the godlike Strike Freedom! METEOR!!

Yes, I would love to have a personal custom gunpla army XD

      • Exkaiser

They made an anime about that!

  • ChaosPaladinFayt

oddly enough, this looks like a combination of beyblade, yu gi oh, metabots, that other game where u get to customize a mini robot where u pit against other players, and digimon( no idea where that came from……..actually thats not too far off for some reason =.=”)

    • Exkaiser

I believe the other mini-robo customization game you’re thinking of is Custom Robo.

  • neocatzon

if this a success, toy manufacturers will hail level-5 and give them another project

  • Did some women just hand a breifcase full of cocaine to a little boy to deleiver? Did a mini robot figurine just try to assisinate the same kid? Kids being trained to take part in wars by using custom figures to develop their skills and draw out their bloodlust? The plot going from something cute to something deep like espinoage, world domination and hot scientists pointing guns?

This game is going to be awesome :D

  • I ready for this game too, it excites me greatly. It is just so cool!

  • kyuketsukimiyu

So it’s like Angelic Layer meets Pokemon meets Gundam?

    I can dig it.

  • This kinda feels like a male version of Angelic Layer.

    • Exkaiser

They called that Plawres Sanshiro way back when, and it was awesome.

  • puchinri

The game is looking better and better, I’m excited for it.
(Does the game look like it uses a lot/any kanji?)

I’ll be getting my Medarot-Pokemon fix with this.

    • Exkaiser

It’s aimed at kids, so it uses furigana with the kanji.

      • puchinri

Ah, good point, thanks. I wasn’t sure what demographic (younger or middle school kids) it was aimed at, so I didn’t even think of furigana. And I couldn’t tell by some of the parts either, but that’s a relief.

Given how supposedly close the PSP2 is to announcement/release I really wonder how many of these PSP games will even see release out of Japan. PSP is a difficult market as it is but with its successor coming so soon I wonder if these late release titles will even be considered. I sure hope so because I am not ready for PSP2 and I really want this, Agito, 3rd Birthday, FF4 Collection and Valkyria Chronicles 3.

    • DUDE!!! How can you now be ready for a new piece of powerful hardware that will sport outstanding graphics?

I cant imagine that PSP games will just be completely halted once the device releases, though. (or they could just releases all the games via the PSN)

      • thebanditking

I am worried about the PSP2 for other reasons as well, specifically the rumor that it has no UMD drive. If Sony chose to go the flash cart way then thats fine but I don’t want PSP2 to be digital only like the Go. Hopefully its not I mean Sony publicly stated that the Go was a mistake they had learned from. I just don’t support a digital distribution future. Besides I have about 50 PSP games and about 38 of those I have not even started, so backlog is not even the word for it, lol.

        • I never understood where the digital only rumor came from. Even today, and before Sony has stated on countless occasions about their belief in disc based media being for here and still here in future (up to 10 years).

I was hoping for mini-blu-ray discs, or a drive capable of reading both UMDs and Blu-rays. Whats the alternative, selling games directly on Memory Stick Pro Duo’s?…

  • Gio32k

I was thinking Pokemon x Virtual On.

      • Code

        rar, I’d play it!

  • This sounds like Gunpla Combined with Medabots which is NOT a bad thing
I just hope we get this game in the west certainly in Europe
Considering Inazuma Eleven comes out here in Europe

    • Exkaiser

Well, collectible fighting robots seems to have a more universal appeal, so maybe we’ll get it in the entire West unlike Inazuma Eleven.

I’m fairly certain the reason NA didn’t get that was because, well, we’re not so hot on soccer.

  • Blacksofa

Is it me, or am I the only person who wants a Medabots type game with PSP graphics.

    • Exkaiser

I’d settle for Medarot R on the Games Archives, myself.
