The Inspiration Behind Marvel vs. Capcom 3′s Costumes (Marvel Side)

By Ishaan . December 21, 2010 . 4:32pm

Between Capcom’s own increasingly fashionable roster of characters and Marvel’s fashionable-as-ever line-up of super heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has a lot of costumes.

Some of them are awesome costumes, like the Iron Spider-Man from Marvel’s Civil War event. And Wolverine’s black costume from the ongoing Uncanny X-Force series.

If you’re a comic fan, Marvel’s website has a nice mini-feature up on the inspiration behind the costumes for five of MvC3’s roster — Wolverine, Spider-Man, Magneto, She-Hulk and Iron Man — that you might like.

Seeing Wolverine’s Age of Apocalypse outfit make the cut was particularly interesting. No Scarlet Spider, though?

Looking forward to this game but a little sad because it probably means we wont get a Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2 (was hoping for Gordian the Warrior and Speed Racer)

i hear ya, i actually prefer tatsunoko’s roster than marvel, they have tons of unique characters, jun the swan and casshern comes into mind. im only buyiung MVC3 since dante and wesker is in there. we need gene, vergil, juri and strider there ^^

hopefully since capcom wants to make another wii fighters. please let it be tatsunoko vs capcom 2 :D

Agreed, but if we do get another one, it might be for the Wii considering it isn’t Western enough. MVC, however; is.

I coulda swore I read an interview that said they weren’t done with TVC yet.

Kinda disappointed that the outfit are just skins and not unique models. Particularly classic Iron Man and the She-Hulk variations.

If they changed the whole model, they’d have to change all the hit boxes and stuff, and you’d have a whole different character

You can give the character a new model while keeping the 2D hitboxes and animations the same. Otherwise, how else can SSF4 allow for alternate costumes like mecha Zangief?

Of course the difference with SSF4 is that the alternate costumes are DLC and not available in the game without buying them. Since MvC3 will have special reskins as alternate colors for many of the Marvel characters, we probably won’t see any DLC costumes, but that will only leave more resources for them to do DLC characters and balance updates.

        • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

From what I’m seeing, mecha zangief appears to just be a reskinned zangief. Although I think we were thinking two different things by models vs. skins. I believe I see what you mean now, as opposed to just changing the color palette, actually changing what the costume looks like.

And yeah, I’d rather them do DLC characters instead of DLC costumes

For some reason, I really like that they have a Red She-Hulk alternate. I’m assuming that means that there will be a Red Hulk alt, too. I love the amount of work they’re putting into this game.

I can only hope, though, for Juri and Gene as future DLC.

Unlockable costumes for all of the characters would be awesome (Capcom should include this as free DLC if not able to do in time before initial release)

I think the REAL inspiration was $$$. You’re all going to get raped on the DLC for this game. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

I think you are absolutely right, I see the twinkle in your eye.
