This Week In Sales: Coming Out Of The Holidays

Recommended Videos

The week of December 27th, 2010 – January 2nd, 2011 saw no new releases in Japan in the top-20 sales chart. Instead, you’re seeing sales start to cool off, coming out of the holidays, giving us a better idea of what to expect from some of the games on the chart.

Donkey Kong Country Returns (#2), for example, is still going strong, and sits proudly at over 600,000 units. Meanwhile, Ni no Kuni (#7) could be beginning to hint at its limits, as it’s still nowhere close to selling out its initial shipment. It remains to be seen if it can maintain steady sales over the next few weeks.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, of course, is still going strong. Showing signs of outpacing Dragon Quest IX, and due for a brand new PSP bundle, it’s going to be interesting to watch over the next few weeks. In contrast, The 3rd Birthday is still being overshadowed by Monster Hunter and its holiday cohorts.

And finally, a quick mention of Pokémon Black/White, well on their way to surpass 5 million with ease. Will we see these games receive a boost when the Nintendo 3DS releases? We’ll find out in a few months.
