  • Day 1, baby, day 1!

  • badmoogle

I would have liked to see a whole movie in this style!I love Yoshida!

  • Thank you for sharing the trailer! I had trouble with the sound in the version posted above, but the game site’s version (http://na.tacticsogregame.com/) seemed fine for me. Don’t know if anyone else had that problem.

At any rate, looking forward to this game.

    • Exkaiser

I had the same problem, thanks for the link to the working version!

    • Thanks; this is fixed now. Something probably went wrong during the encoding process. A quick change from MP4 to AVI fixed the issue on YouTube. :)

  • Exkaiser

Just two more weeks, I can’t wait.

  • Zero_Destiny

Ugh. I remember seeing this trailer the other day. It PO’d me. Where’s the gameplay. I don’t care if there’s a pretty video in it. Since when can you sell a game based only on pretty videos and get away without showing any gameplay. *Sigh* I know it’s silly to be mad over but it’s just so annoying. I wanted to see gameplay. Isn’t that a point of a game? To play it.

    • Bro it’s an SRPG. It’s hard to make those look exciting when you’re just seeing gameplay snippets in a trailer. Just look at some screenshots

      • Zero_Destiny

But I wanted to see some new features in action like the C.H.A.R.I.O.T. func and in English. Besides why do we have to sell a game as exciting? Can’t we just sell as what it is, a fun tactics game with an epic story? I guess I just don’t get trailers like this then. :P Silly me for wanting to know what a game would look like in action before spending money on it. lol

        • Exkaiser

You… you do know that Tactics Ogre has been out for fifteen years and has spawned countless imitators, right? Like FFT? It is really not that hard to find out what it looks like in action.

          • Zero_Destiny

*points to my above comments/replies to your other comments* I’ve played the first Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen and Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. (and have been debating about downloading Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber on the VC). I just want to see the newer funcs to knew if a purchase would be worth it. Is it so wrong to want to see if the new funcs in a game? lol Sorry if I’m being annoying I don’t know. I guess I just hate trailers like this, and was really psyched when I first clicked on it only to be disappointed by just getting a video sequence that didn’t do anything for me. It was pretty though. But I don’t know I guess I just wanted gameplay footage in English.

          • fuzzy_hobo

I highly recommend that you download OB64. Subjectively, the best $10 you will ever spend.

          • Zero_Destiny

@Fuzzy_hobo So it’s a good game? Glad to hear that. I kind of had some doubts. I guess I know what I’ll spend my 1800 Wii points I have left on. lol

          • Sounds like you’re getting the purpose of a trailer confused with that of in-depth previews/gameplay videos

          • I wouldn’t call FFT an imitator when it was made by the same guy…

          • Exkaiser

Fair enough, but it was also him working with a different company than with TO.

    • Exkaiser

      Jeez, calm down.

      Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00z61G35nDo

It’s very easy to see gameplay of Tactics Ogre at this point. It’s been out for fifteen years. Or alternatively you could play FFT.

However, I think this is an excellent trailer. Besides the artistic excellence, it does a very good job of showing off Tactics Ogre’s setting and feel, and the setting is one of the major ingredients that makes TO the excellent game it is.

      • Zero_Destiny

I’ve played the old Tactics Ogre. I want to see the new features in English. That’s what I want. To see if the game will be worth another go and if the new features broke it or not. lol I’m not so much mad as I am just upset. I clicked it thinking OK here we go can finally see some new gameplay, and then I waited 2 more minutes and went WTF where was the gameplay!!! lol Just upset.

        • Exkaiser

The implications of the CHARIOT and the WHEEL OF FORTUNE systems aren’t something you can expressly show in a trailer. The new classes and spells have already been shown off in other trailers. None of the core gameplay has been changed, only the overarching systems that surround it, and those things really can’t be shown through a trailer.

Nothing breaks the game, it’s a very excellent remake, and of course it’s worth your time, it’s Yasumi Matsuno.

          • Zero_Destiny

Does it have any slowdowns? Or does it run well? lol Sorry for so many questions just really trying to narrow down all the games I’m buying since there’s so many good ones coming out at the same time. I can only afford the cream of the crop lol

          • Exkaiser

No slowdowns, unlike War of the Lions. It’s very slick and well-oiled. Definitely a must-have if you’re a fan of the original.

          • Zero_Destiny

@Exkaiser That’s good to hear but NNOOOO lol Now my wallet is officially dead. Looks like I’ll have to keep my pre-order after all. :D Did you ever play the 64 game? Do you know if it’s any good. I’ve heard good things but I’m a little weary about it.

          • irzbos

To your question on the 64 game. Im a decently avid gamer with SRPG’s being my favorite, and ogre battle 64 is my favorite game of all. It’s the only game i’ve beaten 8 times, but maybe im just a superfan of it.

          • Zero_Destiny

@irzbos Thanks I’ve already downloaded it earlier today since I’ve had Wiipoints that were beging to be spent. lol So far it was REALLY fun but I only put like an hour or two into it. I’ll give it a serious go when I get more time :D

  • Caligula

The first line really reminds me of the Aeneid’s opening line.

All in all, really impressive trailer.

    • fuzzy_hobo

As well as Greek epic poems such as the Odyssey or the Iliad. Every Ogre Battle game starts with the Age of Xytegenia (formerly Zetegenia) lines, but I like how this translation mirrors an Invocation to the Muse.

      • Caligula

        Linguas latinam et graecam amas?

  • That’s a real beautiful trailer right there. Awesome art style. Kinda reminds me of the “Take On Me” music video, and Hotel Dusk. :3

  • Tom_Phoenix

Unfortunately, I am all stripped of cash right now, so I cannot purchase the Special Edition. A shame, beacuse I love the box art and the artbook looks preety cool.

That said, this is still a must buy for me. There are a lot of games I am preety iffy about, but a port of such a legendary game is something that is surely not to be missed. I just hope the loading times are good, beacuse I hear the PSX version was practically unbearable.

  • its gorgeous *_* but why couldnt SE lauch a SEdition with the cards , the artbook and the Ost cd -__- , i really wanted the tarot cards too T_T ….. should be the same for everyone meh

  • thebanditking

“A time when men answered to Power Alone”. What an amazing line, really sets the mood, tone and time era with out the a typical “In balendorf 1677….” Very well put together. My portable gaming has always taken a back seat to my consoles but the PSP has really gotten my attention of late with all the great titles from XSeed, looks like with this release that won’t be changing.

  • Aiddon

GOD, that’s gorgeous. I half-wish they would make the game look like THAT. Matsuno and the Ogre Battle Saga have definitely made their triumphant return.

  • Darkrise

DAMMIT!!!!!! CURSE YOU SE!!! I have no more money left to spare for this month!!!! I want those Tarot cards so badly!!

  • Got my copy pre-ordered. I can’t wait! I haven’t played a good SRPG in a while.

  • Epic

  • Hope they put this in the game as the new intro video before the game start.

Seems that it shows some sort of event here…spoilers…

  • xxx128

I enjoyed FF tactics remake tremendously, cant wait for this game :D

  • “As far as game bonuses go, pre-ordering the U.S. version will net you a set of tarot cards designed by Akihiko Yoshida, while Europe gets a special edition with a 44-page art book and soundtrack CD.”

Oh give us the raw deal why don’t you -_- Looks like importing it is the option for me.

Trailer is pretty nifty. I’m torn on whenever it should have had voices or not though.

    • RupanIII

I know what you mean, I’m stuck trying to decide whether to import the Euro version or just stick with the US one and order the full OST later..

  • That trailer pretty much made my brain go ‘wantwantwant’. I love that sketchy shading, and the morphing between styles was a nice touch.

And at least both regions are getting some form of optional pretty art with the game! I do quite want the tarot cards for some bizzare reason.

Actually we (France) will also have the tarots cards and a 50% discount for Vagrant Story on PSN : http://www.eidoshop.fr/games/sony-psp/tactics-ogre-special-edition.htm

  • Kris

Man, I would LOVE to see Matsuno direct a game built on an enhanced version of Valkyria Chronicles’ CANVAS engine. It would be beautiful.
