After Dark, Race Queen Reiko Nagase Smashes Cars In Ridge Racer Unbounded

By Spencer . February 4, 2011 . 9:03am

Namco Bandai has a new Ridge Racer game in the works, but Ridge Racer Unbounded is different from the arcade racing titles associated with the series. Let’s take a look.

The theme for Ridge Racer Unbounded is "drive, destroy, and dominate." Players race on streets after dark and smash into each other in this game. Bugbear Entertainment, the studio behind the Flatout series, is developing Ridge Racer Unbounded for Namco Bandai.

Ridge Racer Unbounded will be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PCs next year. Yeah, PC. This will be the first game in the series with a PC release.

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!

  • What did you do to Ridge Racer? Man, I’m not sure about this direction at all.

  • Lol western developed game, gritty stuff etc.

After the kiss on the cheek that was Tales of Graces F, this feels like a kick in the nuts.

    • thebanditking

I agree, I thought they were done working with Western developers.

        After this one maybe

        • Belenger

Someone inside Namco Bandai has a serious vendetta against Ridge Racer series. Or it’s just another attempt of the company to screw fans someway or another, guessing Bandai is fueled by pure endless hatred.

          • I don’t know. Flatout was a pretty damn fine game. And God knows the last couple Ridge Racers have been TERRIBLE.

  • mikanko

Ugh. RR is probably my favorite racing franchise. Please don’t fix what’s not broken. Or in this case break what was just fine as is.

Also I don’t know if this would really qualify as the first game with a PC release since I’m hard pressed to think anyone will consider this a real Ridge Racer game and not a sequel to Flatout with the RR name.

What’s next Klonoa outsourced to the people who made Blade Kitten?

    • thebanditking

Maybe this deal is a left over from before they closed their western dev studios/plans.

  • FlatOut was kinda cool, cautiously optimistic

Ridge Racer Unbounded ? we dont need this ..we got a game called Burnout maybe you heard of it. is it me or even the cgi woman looks awful movement wise

  • PrinceHeir

what the hell? did it become NFS or something?

    • What Need for Speed did you play, lol? Hot Pursuit, nor Shift/Shift 2 Unleashed looks like this.

      • PrinceHeir

i mean the look and feel.

i don’t think ridge racer was about racing in the streets at night time, smashing cars and such.

        • thebanditking

This reminds me more of the horrible Fast and Furious movies and NFS underground (which was also bad). If this game turned out half as good as Hot Pursuit of Split Second it would be a miracle.

  • thebanditking

Well this is….unexpected, yeah lets go with that. I really can’t muster up any excitement for this at all, seems half baked and poorly planned. Also reminds me of that Ridge Racer sim game they made last gen, while trying to reboot the series. Honestly the reason I like RR so much is the beautiful locales, the arcade game play and the awesome music (well except RR7, but it had good DLC tracks). Oh well there’s always next time………

If not for the Bugbear Entertainment logo, I wonder how many would still be crying about this game? Yeah, I’m sure you’d find a way to like it and support it. That being said, no, it doesn’t look that good to me, but it has nothing to do with it being “Western” or what have you. It just doesn’t look interesting.

This looks surprisingly bad for a ridge racer game. I dont think i want to see more.

Next japanese publisher trying to kill of their franchise off by outsourcing it to the forreign devils. Tsk tsk..
