A third-person action game, American McGee’s Alice haD Alice returning to a twisted Wonderland, corrupted by her unstable mind after she’s institutionalized at Rutledge Asylum for insanity that was caused by the death of her family in a fire.

Alice: Madness Returns has Alice returning to Wonderland once again, still mentally unstable, this time seeking comfort in its familiarity, as she attempts to uncover the mystery behind her parents’ deaths. The game has you using weapons like a Teapot Cannon, Hobby Horse and Vorpal Blade.

Alice: Madness Returns is slated for a release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 14th. The game is developed by McGee’s studio, Spicy Horse.

As long as it’s better than McGee’s recent stuff, I’ll be pleased.

Okay, June has now started to get expensive. Infamous 2, this, and Shadow of the Damned. With E3 that month, I can only imagine what little surprises are going to be dropped on my wallet.

Odd, I think for me June just has Infamous 2 Hero Edition and a 3DS game…fortunately this image of Alice has sold me against the game.

The Hero Edition of Infamous is a bit excessive for me. No need to get it.

I’ve always wanted to play the original but i couldn’t at the time kuz i didn’t have a PC..yes i didn’t have a PC lol

I just hope they don’t screw it up… the original is a classic imo really insane surreal atmosphere that was lots of fun to explore. Extremely creative and original yet logical take on Wonderland… too bad Tim Burton didn’t have the guts or vision to create something like this with his recent movie.

I doubt the studios and audiences would have taken kindly to something like this. But who knows, maybe someone else (with a good budget) will try and do an Alice in Wonderland gothic style film.

You know, the other day I read that there is ,actually, some kind of weird/twisted take on the Alice in Wonderland mythos. I think it was a German movie, don’t exactly remember :(

I’m just glad it’s coming to PS3. I played about a half hour of the first one on my friend’s PC and loved the atmosphere of it, but I can’t stand playing videogames on a monitor and using a keyboard to move around, so I only played that half hour. Still, watched her play some of it and I remember just wishing a PS2 version of that one would’ve been made.

If the gameplay is anything like the original it should translate nicely to console gaming. Normally I prefer keyboard / mouse for a shooter but it’s not like the game called for Alice to make precision headshots with her scoped parasol or whatever, so analog sticks should be good to go.

I’ll probably be getting the 360 version due to the reputation EA has acquired for pimping out malware as DRM in their recent PC releases.

This and DMD are hitting way sooner than I thought they’d be. Well, at least they’re not in for the Fall/ Winter rush…

    Sooo out of cash…

  • Phoenix_Apollo

Rerelease of the original Alice on disc, please? :D

I’m all for corrupting innocence and subverting childhood fantasies but do we really need to keep using the Alice stories every single time? It tends to be the same, a fierce or know-it-all Cheshire Cat, an unstoppable Jabberwocky (even though it never actually appeared in the stories) and a killer Red Queen. Can’t we twist and subvert some other piece of children’s literature? What about Peter Pan?

Will there be a shower scene?

    • Kunio_kun

Yes, only it’s not what you were thinking… It stars the Mad Hatter.

        Nooooo

Could have been worse. Could’ve been Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

  • Aiddon

it definitely looks a lot better than Tim Burton’s attempt at Alice.

Oh stop having a go at tim burton. Alice in wonderland was a great film!

    • Kunio_kun

      No.

  • MisterDandylion

I remember this game for quite sometime ago…..

The surreal feeling ant the paranoia AND fear really felt somethin out Stephen King’s or Clive Barker’s mind :O

I’m cautiously optimistic. McGee’s last two games have been less than stellar. Great ideas but poor gameplay.
This might be great though with exceptional production values.

Thank god for a PC release. The old game used to be awesome btw.
