Final Fantasy V Is Headed To Game Archives In Japan

By Ishaan . April 4, 2011 . 12:50am

We haven’t had any PSOne Classics on the PlayStation Store in a couple of weeks, but Square Enix are still pouring content out in Japan. Next up on the schedule is Final Fantasy V.

Square Enix producer, Shinji Hashimoto, tweeted the news just a while ago. Final Fantasy V will hit Game Archives on April 6th, and will cost 1,200 yen. Hashimoto says the game will take up 150 MB of space.

  • I played Final Fantasy V but I am still trying to learn this game.

  • I remember when I first played this game on my PS1 I was annoyed with the load times.

    • This is the very reason why I avoided V & VI Anthology compilation on the US release.

      • Unfortunately since at that time it was all this FF fever going on so I couldn’t help but getting this game there were two reasons first, I liked the Chrono Trigger port except for the load times associated with it and the anime cutscenes were cool and secondly I wanted to play FFV and who knew that one day we’d be getting plenty of remakes and digital releases.

It’s not gonna be any better on PS3.

But, if you put it on PSP and increase the disc speed, it should be a bit faster.

  • I hope that Square Enix would bring this over to the Virtual Console, translated to English, due to the fears of the loading time issues on its upcoming PSN release.

  • Bakuryukun

    Super Famicom Soundtrack or bust.

  • I’ve beat GBA version a month ago, but I will most probably get this one too, to play it on PSP and enjoy amazing soundtrack.

  • Thanks to you, Siliconera, we already knew they were bringing this over to the Japanese PSN. Curious enough, I was playing the GBA version yesterday.

Here’s hoping an European release will follow. We did get this game on the PS1, bundled in with FF IV in Anthology, so there’s no reason for it not to be released in here anyway :3

  • Final Fantasy V is the best Fantasy V of all the Fantasy Vs.

  • karasuKumo

I might as well get it if it reaches the UK PSN, slowly getting through I and III at the moment :)

  • NoElixirs

One of my top tier FFs. The Job System is one of the best executed systems in the entire series. And Lenna’s theme is melodious too.

  • Guys, Square Enix Europe is also porting the game to the European PSN!!!

    Oh, the joy!

    • So my dream to finish all FFgames will not be a dream at all
      cheers mate!:))

      • Yeah, it seems they’re making it possible for the new generations to enjoy the oldies once more. Now we just need FF VI up on PSN…which will probably take longer given the game is on the Wii’s Virtual Console right now.

I would really like to play this one as from the PS Store. I plan on picking up IV for the psp soon, and haven’t ever played IV, V, or VI.

  • Hashimoto says the game will take up 150 MB of space.
Where does the extra 146MB get added?

    • malek86

      CG movies, I’d guess.

Lowe and Behold this used to be mind-blowing:
But really after watching them again I realized that they atcually aged way better than I initially remembered. But it’s still not that good looking by today’s standards. Everything moved so awkward and choppy, and everyone’s faces we so plump. >_< Personally I'd take this Faris over the plump GC Faris any day of the week: XD

  • Nice, probably my favorite of the SNES Final Fantasy games. Yes, even over VI. :P

  • Yukito

Favorite Final Fantasy game, but I have enough copies, and can play it in many ways. Also, I personally don’t think Square Enix is going to deserve my money for it, especially if FF6 isn’t in the equation like it was on PS1, so no sale.

  • PrinceHeir

does this mean they don’t plan on enhancing FFV and FFVI? :

still nice to see the game on PSN. now people can play the original ^^

    • Zero_Destiny

SE was going to make Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI remakes for the DS like they did with III and IV but they didn’t. I remember an article on this site asked SE why they didn’t and they basically said that:

“Well the DS doesn’t have much longer and the 3DS and NGP are on there way so they want to play it safe and see what console we should develop for.”

It said something on those lines. Anyways I don’t think there’s too much too worry about I figure these PSN and WiiWare ports are just quick money grabs. SE will most likely release remakes for those games. They’ll probably just wait it out first. And see how the market goes.

      Found the article!!!!: []

Shinji Hashimoto was talking about how SE wants to see how the 3DS develops first, instead of making a DS game.

      • PrinceHeir

so i guess 3DS and NGP simultaneous release? it works on Blazblue CS II so i say why not? :D
