Chrono Cross Is PSP Ready, But Still Doesn’t Have A Release Date

By Spencer . April 11, 2011 . 10:57pm

As promised, Shinji Hashimoto updated us on what’s going on with the PlayStation Network version of Chrono Cross. Hashimoto lamented on Twitter there were many hurdles, but thanks to assistance from Sony Computer Entertainment the game is primed for a digital re-release.

That’s Chrono Cross running on a PSP in the video.

Here’s another video of the PsOne game’s opening running on a PSP. A release date was not announced, but Hashimoto usually tweets a date shortly after sharing clips like these.

Oh nice! Didn’t know this was on the way. I’ve never played it but heard good things, so this’ll be the perfect opportunity. :)

It’s a nice game, and I like it better than CT, although the story is convoluted as hell, and chances are you won’t undestand a lot of stuff without reading some sort of plot guide.

      • I don’t think you need a plot guide, really. I don’t read things like that and I understood the story just fine. I think it’s just a matter of having to have played and beaten Chrono Trigger for a lot of the things in it to make sense. I must admit, though, there were some other post-Chrono Trigger elements that get discussed that I did not know until recently were part of another game, but not knowing that didn’t stop me from understanding any of those elements.

please western release along with trigger :D

and where the hell is PE2? :P

  • So, we bought Chrono Trigger DS (well, some of us did). After we grab Cross, how’s about some Chrono Break? :D

I applaud all of the fan works out there and the determination to create them, but they’re just not my sort of thing. I don’t doubt their quality, but I need official Chrono canon.

Hop to it Square! Pretty please?

      rar, I need official Chrono-Dream-Team-Canon >w<~!

  • This is the one reason I wanted to get a pandora battery. So I could play chrono cross on my psp.

  • I wish they’d release this on the european store. Can anyone tell my if it will work on a european PS3 if I use a US account?

After you get it downloaded, the game will work on any region system. The hurdle is getting the download card for whatever region since they only take credit cards from the same region as the store.

“Chrono Cross Is PSP Ready, But Still Doesn’t Have A Release Date”

An obvious typo. I think they meant “PSN Ready”…

    • No I meant PSP since the video shows the game is playable on PSP.

      • Yeah, but most PSN PS1 Classics are playable on both PSP and PS3. When you say just PSP, it gives the impression that it’s a remake of the game made specifically for PSP, like P3P, not a regular PS1 Classic.

  • Chrono Cross has been PSP Ready for years. Unless I just imagined playing it on my PSP 2 years ago…

  • By hurdles do they mean legal / licensing? Honestly I can’t imagine there being any technical hurdles. I’d thought PSOne titles on PSN were for all purposes perfect emulation. Color me curious as to what exactly these hurdles were.

Meh, can’t complain though. Chrono Cross is finally coming to PSN, and that’s a win for everybody! :D

  • Chrono Cross brings back some great memories. It would be awesome for the PSP
