Lucca Tinkers With PSN, Prepares To Chrono Trigger For A Spring Release

By Spencer . April 25, 2011 . 12:25am

chronoSquare Enix confirmed what we told you last week, Chrono Trigger will be released on PlayStation Network. The announcement in Japan came with one additional detail, a timeline. Chrono Trigger will be available  as a Game Archives title this spring.

While a release date has not been announced for North America, Chrono Trigger was rated by the ESRB, a good sign that the Epoch isn’t too far away from our shores.

If you have a Japan region Wii, you can get Chrono Trigger on Virtual Console tomorrow. The game will be sold for 900 Wii Points ($9), a slight premium compared to other Super Famicom titles. A Virtual Console release was announced for PAL regions, but not North America.

  • So that’s why PSN’s been down…

Think that’s why we had that 1999 bug with the PS3? It must’ve been a message from the future! Lucca’s trying to tell us something, we must’ve missed it…

Damnit, 2012 is real! LAVOS IS COMING!

      • Lavos missed its deadline by 12 years in that case.

The apocalypse is inevitable… it can only be postponed. God I remember something from Terminator 3, gotta kill myself!

Spend the extra $8 and buy it for the DS or extra $4 for the PSX with FF4 included on Amazon. A premium on a digital copy when all games prior were less is bs. Almost no development costs. They’re making a killing off the game as they only need to pay ESRB fees and licensing fees.

Sure Chrono Trigger on the PSX has loading times compared to the SNES version, but it’s not unbearable load times. Plus you’re getting the best version of FF4. FF4 Complete I’d say is second best because it’s a GBA port and there is that agility flaw which makes the difficulty a joke up to and a few enemies after Mount Ordeals. Thankfully the poor agility transfers from the garbage GBA version is the only problem with FF4 Complete.

    • That premium is common for Japan’s VC. Various games cost slightly more there without a clear reason I’m aware of (I don’t know the language to look into it).

BTW, Chrono Trigger was not released on PSX in PAL.

Because everyone has a DS or PS1 right? I could drag out my old SNES and play Chrono Trigger, but if I can grab the PSN version I’d rather do that.

You might like to hack your PSP/PS3 as well. Snes emulation is pretty decent on both consoles, and doesn’t have loading times.

  • Yukito

Yay. Another rerelease/port/whatever by Square Enix to make money and give nothing new. Release Dragon Warrior 7…. you know, the one game you guys have that SHOULD be rereleased….

    • We most likely wont see Dragon Warrior/Ouest VII for the reason that Yuji Horii doesn’t like to see ports. He only likes to rerelease games if they are Remade first.

  • Good thing the playstation network is up and ru- Fuuuuuuuuuuu-

    • PrinceHeir

oh man, Parasite Eve II, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Dino Crisis 2

when the hell is PSN coming back up? i hope once it’s up at least make Parasite Eve II available, i’ll buy it Day 1 :P

    • doomspeller10

I feel bad for PSP-Go fans. First their console is not produced anymore, then this.

  • i just hope they give us that new secret of mana remake on iphone since that was my favorite along with chrono trigger in my time.
