Diablo III External Beta To Kick Off In Q3 2011

By Ishaan . May 9, 2011 . 2:12pm

At Activision Blizzard’s first quarter 2011 earnings call today, Blizzard CEO, Mike Morhaime, revealed that internal beta-testing for Diablo III began at Blizzard last week. External beta-testing for Diablo III will kick off in the third quarter of 2011.

Morhaime added Blizzard hope to release Diablo III in 2011, but not at the expense of the game’s quality. Because of this, no official release date or window has been announced for the game yet.

In the event that Blizzard don’t release a product this year, one can expect to see a minimum of two Blizzard games launched in 2012, according to Activision Blizzard executives.

  • I need to get a gaming comp this shitty laptop isn’t gonna cut it

Dedication to quality is an admirable quality.

Uh oh, I should probably fire up the old Diablo again, just so I can get ready for this.

    • I actually tried doing just that a few months ago with a friend, and I found I just couldn’t play it any more. Maybe it’s finally gotten to the point where I’ve played D2LOD too much to ever be able to enjoy it again (about 5-7 hours of co-op everyday with various friends when I was in my teens for about two years).

…or maybe watching all those D3 Blizzcon panels just makes me want to move on to Diablo III already.

I didn’t like Diablo 2 that much, so I guess that’s the reason why I still prefer Diablo. Even if it has problems, admittedly.

  • I dont understand the purpose of the read more line…

Diablo III for consoles will be epic. Hopefully that is the reason the game is taking so long.

    • Arcm

I hope so cause the two laptops I have probably won’t run this game that well.

      • i dont know why i even want the game if i know i wont be able to play it… thats the only problem i have with computer games T_T

I hate to disappoint you, but it’s more likely that the long development time is simply the result of Blizzard’s dedication to quality. They have always been that way, taking as much time as they need.

Either way, while anything is possible, I wouldn’t hold my breath for console version. Fortunately, Blizzard develops its games in a way so that they are compatible with PC hardware that is several years old. So most people won’t require an upgrade or will require a minor one at most.

Yes, and also Blizzard stated that possible console versions of Diablo 3 won’t delay PC version.

This hypothetic “delay” doesn’t make sense at all, ’cause even if Blizzard started console Diablo 3 development, it’s in very early stages and weill get to release at best in a year or two after PC release.

  • I know my boyfriend will love to hear this news, better go tell him. I’ve never played any other Blizzard game besides Starcraft 2 and I know that took twelve years to come out after the first one. I trust that Blizzard will have another great game. I mean they value quality a lot in games (given how long it takes for sequels and expansions to come out) so hopefully this won’t disappoint anyone once it hits shelves.

  • Exand

Take your time Blizzard. I’ve waited a decade, I can wait another year or two for more polish.

  • the method for beta release will be similar to the Starcraft II way???
