Final Fantasy Legends’ Shadowy Dancer From The Desert Has A Chapter To Herself

By Spencer . May 20, 2011 . 12:03pm

ffl1We’ve seen the dancer job in many Final Fantasy games, but while Square Enix gave a bard a back story there hasn’t been a "Dancer" character. (OK, I suppose the slamdancing moogle Mog fits this role, but he’s remembered for being a moogle unlike Edward the Bard.)

Final Fantasy Legends: Warriors of Light and Darkness, an episodic mobile phone game, has a dancer chapter starring Matoya. She’s one of the game’s heroines on the Darkness side. For generations, Matoya’s family have been linked to dancing. She performs inside the desert’s entertainment district in a pub called Garden Garden.

Matoya has a calm demeanor and a youthful outlook on life, but she’s also connected to the ultimate weapon the Kingdom of Avalon is building…

Playing through Maytoya’s chapter adds the dancer class to the game, which can cure the party with Cure Waltz, drain MP using Aspil Samba, and debilitate enemies with Weak Polka.

wish we had more shadowy dancers IRL

    • strip clubs, IRL’s got the better deal

  • Man, when are we getting this game here? :|

    • AnimusVox

We’re not. SE doesn’t love us.

      •  Sure they do. Hopefully they port it to iPhone or some console marketplace.

        • Testsubject909

Eh, the love from SE is on and off. Phone games are unlikely to cross borders too.

Personally I’d be more interested in the social P3 phone game then this, but that’s just me. Not saying it wouldn’t be bad to have. (Though not saying the P3 social game is any better either. Just personal mood for games).

You also do realize that, looking at the gameplay pictures, we’re not getting that hot looking girl, we’re getting a more classic 16-bit RPG.

          • I didn’t say anything about the girl. I’ve been following this game for a while and I’m really interested in playing it. I love the sprite work and the fact that it uses a job system like FFV, and if you know anything about me, you know I really like FFV (I’m directing the FFV remix album on OC ReMix).

The 16-bit look is the most appealing part to me. Plus the soundtrack is really nice. I’ve been excited about this game for quite a while because of that old-school approach, not because there’s a pretty dancer character. Please don’t make that kind of assumption about me.

    rar, I wish more Final Fantasy games had fun artwork like this omo;

    • Guest

Weird picture. She looks normal while everyone behind her looks cartoony

    • Testsubject909

Many FF has great artwork, you just need to go check it out.

      • Code

True, I guess I more so meant I feel like artwork like this hasn’t been prominent in many FF’s as of late.

“We’ve seen the dancer job in many Final Fantasy games, but while Square Enix gave a bard a back story there hasn’t been a “Dancer” character.”

Maybe not the single player entries, but FFXI had a whole expansion (Wings of the Goddess) where the main character in the extensive mission storyline was a dancer named Lilisette, and featuring some other well developed Dancer supporting characters – Portia, as well as the wonderfully flamboyant Mayakov.  There is also a separate storyline associated with the Dancer job class in XI (unlocking the job, followed by several quests giving additional story) starring an NPC dancer named Laila.

At any rate, this game looks pretty cool and I hope to see it ported to something in English.  And – Matoya???  That’s not the same Matoya from FFI, is it?  She looks… different ;)

  • PrinceHeir

     hot hot O_O

  • wow it look like  Lilisette from FFXI Oo! even the magic of dancer is name after the FFXI abilities and so on. very amazing!! cant wait to hear something on the summoner class and i do hope they port this title to psp or iphone.

  • Matoya is lookin’ fierce!

  • wish we could get this game via 3DS port o 3o

    • Testsubject909

You’re just hoping for some 3DS boobies aren’t you?

  • we should get this game via a 3DS port o 3o

it’d definitely be better than FFXIII and FFXIV

  • xxx128

would love to see this on the psp. This game looks more intersting than the boring hyper polished massmarket FF’s of last.
