Takahashi Meijin AKA Master Higgins Is Leaving Hudson

By Ishaan . May 23, 2011 . 2:04pm

In hindsight, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Hudson have been in a downward spiral for a while. First, their U.S. division was shut down by Konami, and then, Hudson’s Japanese division was relegated to developing social and mobile phone games.

Meijin announced on his blog yesterday that he would be leaving Hudson at the end of the month. He apologized for the short notice, and confirmed that he would continue to support the game industry, going forward. He made the announcement on his 52nd birthday.

In a separate announcement, gravure idol, Anno Haruna, revealed that she and Takahashi Meijin would be working together, although she didn’t go into specifics. Along with the announcement, she tweeted a picture of the two of them together at a flea market.

Takahashi Meijin is better known to fans as “Master Higgins,” was one of the most famous employees at Hudson, and often a spokesman for the company. He was once known for his famous speed of “16 shots per-second” in Star Soldier, referring to his ability to rapidly tap a button on a controller. Last year, Hudson even released a 16 Shot! Shooting Watch game on DSiWare to help players practise their own button-tapping skills.

  • Damn.  If only @Konami realized he’s Hudson’s answer to Hideo Kojima, they’d value his contributions more.

I just hope Master Higgins has good memories of his time in Hudson.

I’m sure he has, but that doesn’t erase the fact that this transition to Konami is proving to be disastrous, and the fact he is leaving must be frustrating for him. It’s like if Miyamoto had to leave Nintendo.

They’re loosing everything that made them Hudson when they were supposed to not change all that much. They should have left it as it was.

as he said that we still be supporting game industry, we could had a chance to see him working on other companies too. Who knows he will work with Inafune to create rapid smashing rockman game lol.

“says that she and Meijin will be starting something together. She would not share specifics, even when pressed by her Twitter followers.”

“She’s particularly into retro games, and says she has a personal collection worth over 10 million yen.”Amazing O_O

don’t tell me this is the same Chin Li as here no?

    probably not :

The end of an era, sad to see this happen but his talents are better used at an actual game company, not some mobile/social division. I hope we hear something more from him soon.
