Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2′s Battle System Brings 8 Characters Into One Fight

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 gives players two rows of characters in battle. Nepgear is in front, but see the bubble linked to her portrait? That’s Compa linked to her through what Dengeki PlayStation explains is a cup link.

The lily system lets players tie two characters – one in front and one in the rear. Only the character in the front row does attacking; the character in the back row has a support role. In total, players can have up to eight characters in one battle. In addition to Nepgear, Uni, Rom, and Ram, Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 adds returning company mascots including Compa, IF, 5pb, Gust, and NISA.

New to Neptunia Mk-2 is how each console nation has their own religion. Historie, the goddess from the previous game, is the founder of the sect on Planeptune. Dengeki mentions Historie, despite her childlike appearance, is a former goddess who used to be able to create life.

Mina Nishizawa is the leader of the Lowee. She handles her duties with ease and is quite reliable, but said to have a frightening if she gets mad. Chika Hakozaki’s family has served the goddess for generations. Following in her sister’s footsteps, Chika is the leader on Leanbox. Kei Jinguji is the leader on Lastation. She values work over everything else, which makes her have a bland personality. Kei despise people that break promises.

You’ll meet these characters on August 18 when Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk-2 comes out on PlayStation 3.

Needed coffee to stay awake while localizing more great titles, no doubt :P I look forward to see your editing in Neptunia Mk2.

Haha, thanks. If we choose to localize it, I’d love to continue working on the series. Right now, it’s all Katanagatari and Atelier Totori!

Please do. I finally tracked the first one down earlier this month, and finished it earlier this week, absolutely loved it.

“The lily system lets players tie two characters” = the system let you tie two loli to make yuri pair :P

That’s… surprisingly clever, actually. A decent way of getting a larger cast involved with fights, always an annoying chestnut with battle systems. I’ll admit it’s more than I expected from this game.

Actually even the first Neptunia had a similar system, since you could switch a character with another in the back row in the middle of a combo. Unfortunately since you had three characters for most of the game and could recruit others only using dlcs or completing subquests prior to the last boss that feature was factually almost useless :

Idea FactoryCompile Heart games have always had many quirky features in their battle systems, I hope that having a decent budget like in Neptunia 2 can help them get some recognition.

Well, if my experiences with the Japanese game are worth anything, if they HAVEN’T learnt their lessons from the first version of the game (which could be borderline torture, the US release added a lot of stuff that I never saw for months) they’re not going to find anyone being remotely forgiving the second time around. I’ve got a good grinding tolerance, but I don’t have a good tolerance for attempts which fail to learn from their mistakes the second time around.

For most part, they know that they need to accelerate combat, let more of the combat system be relevant (There was quite a bit which was interesting in Neptune, but was functionally useless, like you mentioned, but also the summon disc system… and now I think about it combat generally), and focus on balancing combat more with the storyline (ie storyline and characterisations are pretty interesting and focus on that), and play to their strengths.

I’m still thinking about it myself. Sure I can subject myself to games I’m not particularly enthuastic about, but doesn’t mean I should…

The leader of Leanbox should not have a Japanese name…should be….Wilomena Gatesborough and she should wear glasses…

Can’t wait, every update makes this game looks better and better, and it may even surpass my expectations when it’s released (not that my expectations are that high). Hope this means that a lot of characters can be recruited at one point in Mk-2. Also, hope NISA will localize this – loved their Neptunia localization (which I haven’t finished since I just got it a few days ago).
