Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection Will Climb Out This September In Japan

By Ishaan . June 3, 2011 . 1:28am

Following a delay from their intended spring 2011 release, the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection has been dated in Japan. Sony plan to release both games on September 22nd, both individually, as well as in a single package.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will go for 3,980 yen apiece. If someone decides to buy the limited edition package that includes both, they’ll need to plonk down 6,980 yen. This package comes with a special booklet and dynamic themes for the PlayStation 3.

Update: Added new promo video for Ico.

I hope it’s not gonna be THAT expensive when it comes out here…

I mean, sure, they are awesome games, but the GOW collection was $39 for both.

    • PrinceHeir

they already said that the US version will be getting both in one package.

though other collections are different. for example, the RE Revival Selection is offered both for japan in one pack while in the west it is offered digitally and separately.

Metal Gear Solid collection on the other hand, the west has all the games including Peace Walker while japan, Peace Walker is separated from the package.

so yeah it all depends :

      • malek86

Japan is also getting them in one package, but for 7000 yen :

        • mikanko

Yeah, US release is just a combo of both for $40.  ICO and SotC were bigger sellers in Japan, so they they think they can market them as stand alone games there, here not so much.  I just hope the time between the JP release and the US one aren’t too far apart.

    • mikanko

it’s $40 for both in the US.

    • I would pay $1,000 for both of those. Probably more. They are priceless games to me.

    • Code

rar, I’m confused by this statement xpx; So you mean this should be less then $39?

      • malek86

No, I mean they should be less than 4000 yen each :P

But if the USA version is just $39 for both, that’s fine. The price difference sure is pretty big.

saw the box art, sooo awesome O_O

this along with Resident Evil Revival Selections, Metal Gear Solid Collection, Zone of the Enders Collection, Silent Hill Collection.

with rumored games such as Devil May Cry having some sort of collection. damn O_O

off topic, why the hell is the RE Revival Selection only digital outside of japan, while japan has physical copies all in one package?

and do any of you want other collections besides these? for me i want a Xenosaga Collection, Final Fantasy X,X-2, XII, Dirge of Cerberus Collection(please International Version with dual audio and subs please), Resident Evil 1 and 0 Collection(just make it HD and widescreen this time), Legacy of Kain Collection, Kingdom Hearts Collection(same thing as FF Collection), Shin Megami and Persona Collection, Fatal Frame Collection(doubt it :), Dot Hack GU Collection,

      Where’s Ultraman Fighting Evolution Collection…

    • WonderSteve

I wish they would redo Xenogears

  • Are the boss fights that massive in both games? Thats the most compelling part. On the fence with the game.

    • There’s only one boss fight in ICO, most of the time it’s you controlling the boy and trying to escape the castle with the girl, with tons of puzzles abound. It’s a pretty touching story at the end.

Shadow of the Colossus on the other hand, that’s nothing but boss battles, epic boss battles.

I highly recommend both games just because of the brilliant artistic value, but the game play is outstanding too, not to mention the small bits of story that leave a big impact if you follow closely enough.

      • And that boss battle in ICO was simply epicness represented in it’s perfect state

    • YsyDoesIt

I stand behind what Edward says.  While Ico is on the opposite end of the spectrum in comparison to Shadow of the Colossus with its epic battles, both have a significant emphasis on the journey.  Ico’s environmental puzzle-solving is just more oriented towards static environments than figuring out the means of travel on a colossus to strike it’s Achilles’ Heel.

  • Aoshi00

Listening to the music just reminds me how epic both of these games are (the ending song for Ico was so sad and beautiful).. I bought their soundtrack and even imported Colossus before..  pre-ordered the US release from Amazon some time ago, the Last Guardian too, can’t wait.

take it! take all of my money, my house, my wife, my slaves! take it all. :'( this is the 4th time a trailer made me cry so much.

  • Barrit

Heard so much about these games so I’ll have to pick this up.

Damn, today I added 2 more games to the long list of releases from June-August. This one and El Shaddia. This is March all over again!

  • Important question:  Will ICO US version have the content that was missing?

    • blah blah

      Ico had content taken out?
      That sucks. :(

      • Mainly the post game content, especially the translation!  Not knowing what she said adds to the game’s atmosphere but still…
Also, apparently some of the puzzles are different in the US version but that one wasn’t as painful knowing about.

I looked up info and apparently US gamers are getting the PAL version, so I’m happy.
