By Ishaan . July 29, 2011 . 10:04am

Atlus USA are publishing The King of Fighters XIII in North America, and they announced today that they’re giving it their Atlus Spoils treatment with a limited 4-disc soundtrack compilation.

Pre-ordering The King of Fighters XIII from Amazon or Gamestop will net you four discs of music spanning the series’ 15-year history. The soundtrack compilation, Atlus USA say, is being produced according to pre-order demand. They also revealed the game’s final box art. It’ll have different covers on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3:

King of Fighters XIII is due out on October 27th in the U.S. Rising Star Games will publish the game in Europe this winter. Japan gets King of Fighters XIII on October 25th.

Ash for 360 box art and kyo for PS3

  • mikanko

Elizabeth with her XI outfit as an alt sprite template.  Kyo with Kusanagi alt template.  Complete balance changes from the arcade.  O($^UHDSGH [email protected]@!!! so hard not to get excited for this.  I’ve preordered.

Please don’t be lying about your online again SNKP.  :|

  • thebanditking

PS3 cover has Mai, it wins! lol. This is great news a 4 disc OST, for a US release!? I love you Atlus!

    • malek86

I wonder if companies put out multiplatform games with different covers in hope that somebody will actually buy them twice just for that.

    • “YAY MAI, I BUY”.

      LOL, fixed.

      • mikanko

        Kula gets my mula!

  • Where’s my credit card?! I must find it! I love their soundtrack, dammit!

  • How much is in this soundtrack that’s worth 4 disks?! O.O

  • Zero_Destiny

I’m terrible at fighters but this I would like to own. ^_^ Haven’t played King of Fighters at all this generation. Really did love these games back in the day though. Always had a thing for SNK fighters. Hopefully I can scrounge up the money for this. It’s really hard to pass up. Love both boxes. It’s hard to pick between them. XD

    • mikanko

This is more or less the first KoF game to come out on consoles this generation, and probably has more in common with 2k2 than anything more recent.  Though it’s more or less it’s own game.  They’re promising an in depth tutorial and trial mode that should be helpful for new players.  Dandy J made a really nice KoF basics tutorial up on youtube that helps differentiate the basics of KoF compared to other fighting games.

      XII is pretty much the most unfinished game I’ve ever paid for and it’s obvious SNKP is trying really hard to make up for it.  It’s best to pretend it doesn’t exist.  ^^;

  • So KOFXIII gets Atlus’s biggest Pre-order bonus ever?  That’s interesting.

    • Guest

But no Mai Shiranui plush pillow?

      • That’s actually seen as tasteless and creepy…in America.

  • Which console was best for the previous KOF?
    PS3 or 360?
No fanboys, I have both consoles and a modded stick.

    • they were exactly the same…crap. :p
      But really, they were identical.

    • mikanko

They’re both arcade perfect, but XII plays very differently from XIII and no one plays it online, plus it has incredibly laggy input delay regardless.  There’s no tutorial mode and the computer AI is beyond inept(no noticeable difference between easy and hard).  So there’s no reason to get XII if you want to practice for XIII coming up.

As far as XIII goes, nothing taxing about this game that shouldn’t let it run perfectly on both systems.  Xbox live has better matchmaking in my opinion(netcode will be the same on both games, but I’ve always felt XBL finds more optimal connections easier than PSN), but it’s likely PS3 will have a larger user base to find matches with.

You should really get XIII for whichever system you think you’ll have more friends playing on.

      • hey thanks! maybe I phrased it wrong, but I was asking which version of XIII I should be getting.

    • Guest

I would sooner get King of Fighters i-002 for iPhone/iPod then KoF XII

    • thebanditking

unless you have an arcade stick or want to buy one, I would go with the PS3 version if for nothing more then the fact that the Dualshocks d-pad actually works.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

Traditionally, fighting games tend to sell more on PS3 than 360 with the exception of Soul Calibur IV and vanilla SFIV. Otherwise, every single fighting game of this gen has sold more on PS3, which means it has a bigger community. I’d recommend PS3, even if the 360 cover is better.

  • I WOULD LOVE THE SOUNDTRACK. The art looks great. I like the PS3 box art better, because it’s less cluttered and there are less floating heads. I mean, Iori is just trying to squeeze himself in the 360 one.

  • The only KoF I ever played was KoF 99′. I guess its time to get this one.

    • Guest

Before this one, the best one imo is KoF 2002 Unlimited Match

also they should put Endless in the game. imo.

  • Shinji Kazuya

Nice! Both covers are equally great!

  • dr000d

PS3 cover is so much better. Glad to get the better version again.

    • xAKUM3TSUx

Dont hate me but I think the 360 cover is 10x sweeter!!! (well only becuase it has Ash…my FAV. But if it wasnt for him it would be vice-versa lolz)

      • YAY! I thought I was one of the few who liked the 360 one better, despite me not having one lol.

  • damnnnn i gotta buy this on release now!

  • Code

rar, I think I’ll be giving it a shot owo; Chances are I’ll have to look into doing my first pre-order from Amazon then~!

  • Guest

    PS3 boxart > 360 Boxart

    • cmurph666

      360 Boxart > PS3 boxart

      • Guest

        why spread lies? Not noice

      • I have a PS3 but I have to agree, the 360 boxart is more to my liking…Damn!

    • I prefer x360 Boxart BUT there’s Mai on the PS3. It’s equal tbqh.

    • I prefer the ps3 one too, but the 360 color conveniently matches the color of Ash’s flames…lol

  • AJ

4 CDs?  That has to be the biggest pre-order bonus that Atlus has done.  I might pre-order it now.

  • xAKUM3TSUx

OMG!!! I just need the CD with Ash on the cover and I’m good :)

  • MAO

Wow, what an awesome pre-order bonus! The Japanese version only gets a download code for the original Iori… :(

    • puchinri

I like your Gabrielle icon~. Totally off-topic, but I just wanted to say that.

      • MAO

        Thanks. I think she’s really cute. :)
Anyway, I downloaded it from the Japanese website. If you’re interested, here’s the direct link to the download page.

        • puchinri

I do too~. (I can’t wait to get the 3DS ver of the game.)
          Oh, that’s schway! Thanks~!

  • I want this!  Too bad I don’t have the system, dare I buy something before the console?

  • Ryos

Although I couldn’t care less about the game, it’s certainly a nice bonus for those who want it or are on the fence.

  • Guest

    Wow very nice.

Hope we’ll see that in Europe as well.

  • puchinri

Fffff! YES! This totally makes up for P2(P)’s ten tracks! Although why is the PS3 cover so different? Now I wish even more that I had a 360. TTnTT

    • haku67

I agree with you. 360 cover does look better.  I’ll take what I can get through.

      DAY ONE BUY after pre-ordering!

      • puchinri

Lol, yeah, pretty much. I went ahead and pre-ordered just earlier tonight. x’D

  • neo_firenze

They know I’m a sucker for KOF soundtracks.  Sad thing is, unless there are special arrange versions I probably have all of these songs anyway since I have all the OSTs (including the KoF ’94-2002 box set… one of my prized gaming posessions).  Doesn’t matter, do want.

I’ll also probably get both PS3 and 360 versions.  Wouldn’t be the first time I double dipped on an SNK fighter in different formats/regions.  Wouldn’t even be the 10th time.  Neo Geo collectors are weird like that ;)

    • mikanko

I’m pretty tempted to double dip myself, but going to wait for confirmation the online is decent first.  The KoF panel at Evo apparently they talked about looking into GGPO, but saying it wasn’t suitable for KoFXIII.  Whether that’s because it was too hard to implement, or some other reason is hard to say.

If they’ve found a way to standardize input latency it and letting the game sync similar to AH3’s netcode it could be just as good so long as you’re playing someone in your timezone.  Oh if only the US wasn’t behind countries like Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and a lot of Europe when it came to our network infrastructure. =/

  • AzureNova

  • Pre-ordered =)

    • Lucky you! I’m still trying to find my credit card! This is an awesome deal for the standard PS3 price, so I must find it before the deal breaks! I never pre-ordered in my life, but this deal sucked me into spending a bit more of my money! If anything SNK excels at the most, it has to be video game music, and I bet they know it, so SNK must be pleased already! The number of sales this game will have cannot be low at this rate!

      • The KOFXIII ost alone would’ve been worth it. They are really outdoing themselves this time.  With stuff like this and KOF-i, they really appear to be getting their act together, I hope they keep it up!

  • I learned from Radiant Historia that, if Atlus is giving away Original Soundtracks with pre-orders, you should pre-order:) I’m looking forward to this one for sure!

  • KyoyaHibari

My money, take all of it…

  • Kitestwinblades

Just like the Limited edition Blazblue box from waaay back XD. Thank you Atlus! Its like they dig deep for things to spoil us with. I mean this is a FIGHTING game! Way to debut that all fans are equal.

  • William Carpenter

Wish Amazon would update the listing. Still has the display-only coverart and doesn’t mention the soundtrack.

  • xXDGFXx

I was trying to figure out what turned me off about the ps3 version and realized it’s really monotone-ish+ it’s warm colors. Needs more oomph in it’s palette.

  • Yo who else wants the xbox version simply for the cover? I guess since Ash uses green in his attacks it fits the xbox motif. And that soundtrack? Insta preorder for me

    • thebanditking

I like the color scheme on the 360 cover but again the PS3 has Mai who is in fact female unlike Ash here who just looks it, lol.

      • Besides the Xbox also has the killer Shen Woo and the cool Duo Lon and K’ on the cover.

      • Uh…..what about Elisabeth, Vice, and Mature?

  • You people are crazy the xbox cover sucks!  PS3 cover is way better, I love to see Kyo Iori and Mai on there.  You guys are the same jerks that voted for the crap kof12 cover – which i didn’t buy for that reason alone.  Preordered from hopefully the listing will indicate the soundtracks. wouldn’t ship to moose country.

    • I never seen anyone that wouldn’t buy the game because of the cover. That made me lol. You can see the same exact characters on the Xbox one than the PS3 one with the exception of Mai. I guess that makes people mad because the PS3 cover has boobies and the Xbox has a trap character that made you felt gay when you first seen him in the series. :P

      • Tokom23

Japanese people love doing this, so I just look at their chest to tell the difference, but that doesn’t always work for me, since it can be a girl who is just flat-chested….
Remember Bridget from Guilty Gear? I thought that was a girl with a flat-chest, but yeah……that was a bitch slap in the face there….

      • mikanko

I dunno, I kinda like the 360 cover because K’s expression on the PS3 cover is kinda odd, and his hair looks a bit fro’ish.  I guess all anyone else can see is Mai ;p

Also, KoF XIII is the the climax of the Ash saga, it kinda makes sense for him to be on there.  Kinda wish Elizabeth was more prominent since she was supposed to be the main protagonist of this story arc.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

My biggest problem with the PS3 cover, besides the fact that I love the green color scheme of the 360 one, is that it doesn’t have a single Ash Saga character. It looks like it’s still from the NESTS Saga.

I have to ask…Is there anywhere we, as PS3 owners, can voice our concern about how bad the PS3 cover is, in the hope that it’ll be changed?

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

As a PS3-only gamer who will buy this day one, I have to say that I’m jealous of how much better the 360 cover is. Hope they have reversible covers or something in the final retail product.

I’m a bit saddened that there was no chance to vote on the covers.

  • MCoelho

I prefer the PS3 cover, going to pre-order when i get home.

  • The green goes with the xbox cover wonderfully

the ps3 has kyo looking like a badass mofo

    really hard to compare !

kof 12 for the 360 had a crap cover while the ps3 one had kyo and iori looking awesome !

i want reversible covers aswell !

  • I like the 360 one better, it has my team on it… hmm.
I already pre-ordered the PS3 version when I picked up Catherine. I wasn’t not expecting this, hehe.

  • PS3 cover art reminds me more of the AES KoF’s than the 360 art does, so, easy choice. Then again, I don’t have a stick for the PS3, so I’m gonna have to wait and see if it will work on my J360. But, I really want the soundtrack.

  • PrinceHeir

freaking love the boxart, though i would have preferred if the used Hiroaki’s art(2002 UM)

though he didn’t made the art of XIII so it’s understandable.

gotta pre order this soon!!!! :)
