Resident Evil: Revelations’ 3D Doesn’t Change The Game, But Enhances Horror

Speaking with Gamasutra, assistant producer, Tsukasa Takenaka, reveals that the idea to create a game along the lines of Resident Evil: Revelations existed before Capcom got their hands on the Nintendo 3DS.

“Someone’s always thinking about a new Resident Evil game, or something interesting that we could do,” Takenaka shared during the interview. “So I would say that there was the idea for a Resident Evil game that ended up being the core of Revelations before we had the new hardware; then, as soon as we get it in our hands and see what it’s capable of, all of those ideas really take shape.”

Speaking to the stereoscopic 3D effect on the 3DS, he says it doesn’t change how Revelations is played, but it does enhance the horror feel of the game and allows Capcom to tell an interesting Resident Evil story, which he hopes that fans will appreciate.

Takenaka says that process of coming up with different directions for Resident Evil games prior to selecting what systems to develop for doesn’t apply just to Revelations, but also to games like The Mercenaries 3D and Operation Raccoon City.

Resident Evil: Revelations is slated for release on February 7th, 2012 in the U.S. and January 27th in Europe.
