Cave Story+ Is Another Re release, This Time For Steam

Cave Story re-releases aren’t done yet; Nicalis are putting another version of the game out on Steam today, for $10. This new version, titled Cave Story+, has new features such as “HD” (yes, in quotes) graphics, support for the original graphics, and a remastered as well as the original soundtrack. There’s an option to mix and match the two as well.

Nicalis say that Cave Story+ supports PC and MAC, and has seven new modes. Nemesis Challenge and Wind Fortress are two of these. In December, they’ll be releasing free content upgrades via Steam. The game supports Steamworks achievements as well.

We said Cave Story+ costs $10, but if you buy it during its first week, you can get it for $8.49.

    That’s a lot of Cave Story in two years.

    Now, on one hand, it might be quite difficult to sell this game on the PC, given that it’s the same platform where you can download the original free version.

    On the other hand, PC gamers are usually quite generous toward indie games, so who knows. It might still sell pretty well. Especially if it eventually lands into an indie bundle.

      That’s kind of what stumps me, I’d be very tempted to pick it up, as I love Cave Story, but well I’ve got it on PC already o3o; That being said I’d be totally for picking it up knowing it has some nice additions to the game.

    Aren’t they going a little overboard?

    I never quite finished it but enjoyed the hell out of it for sure. Another one to add to the list of steam games I most likely won’t get around to anytime soon.

    Picked it up last night.  Worth it for 8.50.

    I’d buy this if I knew that Pixel was getting compensated for it. Wasn’t there some incident concerning the Wii version?

      Steam works differently. They work the deal out with the developers before publishing the games, so I’m sure everything is ok.

    I think this may be the most “complete” 2D version, especially in terms of soundtrack.  I was hesitant on the Wii and DSi versions because I’d played the freeware version already and in exchange for my money I got a largely less interesting (imo) OST and otherwise almost the same game.

    Meanwhile, I have no 3DS yet and a 3D Cave Story seems rather different in it’s own right so I don’t even think of it as the same thing.

    In less words, I want this.  :|

      That’s about how I feel with the soundtrack, the original was better then the reworked soundtrack in the Wii/DSi ports. That being said it does offer up some nice stuff like boss attack mode, and other options.

      Looks like the Steam version is generally a improved version, of the version on Wii, so it likely is the definitive version at the moment, as it includes all the Wii’s additions and some extras o3o;

      I don’t have 3DS either, but I’ve actually heard good things about the 3DS version. Even though I really don’t like the art direction, the in-game visuals do look pretty nice owo; Plus you can switch to classic sprites, which is perfect o3o;

    damn it i just bought the wiiware version 2 days ago.

    will have to double dip this now :

    and yes if the game were released back during the SNES days thus would have been in the top of the game :P
