Generation Of Chaos Goes From PSP To Android

By Spencer . November 30, 2011 . 11:56pm

Generation Of Chaos Goes From PSP To AndroidHyperDevbox specializes in PSP to Android conversions. They ported Spectral Souls earlier this year and just finished work on Generation of Chaos. It’s a strategy RPG from Idea Factory, but not your typical move your heroes on a grid kind of game. Read this mini strategy guide NIS America created for the PSP version if you’re thinking about giving Generation of Chaos a try.

The Android version has touch screen controls and an option optimized for tablets. HyperDevbox also says they reduced load times and the 30 on 30 battles are smoother than the PSP release. Performance will probably vary between Android devices though! Generation of Chaos is fully localized in English and available for $15.

    Is this game any good?

    • Ladius

If you like grand strategy jrpgs a la Dragon Force and can deal with an extremely deep game that can be initially too complex for many newcomers due to its systems and lack of complete tutorials, yeah, this game is great and one of the best in its (admittedly almost dead) sub-genre.

Is this in anyway reelated to Spectral Force Genesis on DS?

    • Suicunesol

Yes, in a way. Though the Spectral Force and Generation of Chaos series are separate, they come from the same developer, are part of the same Neverland universe, are both SRPGs, and even share a few characters between the two series, such as Hiro and Roze.

        Thanks.

GoC4 is set in another continent and, aside from some cameos, is completely stand alone in respect to the “real” Neverland games. Also, while Spectral Force Genesis was a grand strategy jrpg, it was far more simple and barebones than GoC4, even if it had more countries. In a way, it was more handheld-friendly (GoC4 was a PS2 port), but some new mechanics weren’t as balanced as those you can find in this game. If you’re interested, SFG was set many years after after Spectral Souls 2′s true ending and Blazing Souls.

OH! I WANT TO PLAY THIS!

I remember seeing the character designs for the Playstation 2 version of this game many years ago, and they really stuck to me. 30 vs 30 battles, kingdom management, and a compelling story made it hard for me to skip this as it was the time when I first fell in love with Fire Emblem. (Though I don’t think this game resembles Fire Emblem much at all.)

When I get an Android I’ll be sure to pick this up! I hope it plays well.

Awesome, I can finally play some of the games I like on the android.

  • Crimson_Cloud

Personally I didn’t like the game all that much, the story and atmosphere didn’t drew me in. But I loved the setting and its characters.

  • Ladius

Really awesome, GoC is the only Dragon Force-like series still existing (Idea Factory had some members of the original DF team), and I really hope more people can enjoy it. GOC4 is a fine entry in the series, too, aside from its steep learning curve, and I hope the loading times are shorter than the PSP edition.

Still, I would really like IF to give us a new GoC game, with the success of Agarest and Neptunia they seem to have forgotten about GoC and Spectral (aside from the new Disgaea-like game that apparently has nothing to do with the Neverland saga).

Thank you for all your nice comments!
We know that Generation of Chaos can seem very complex at first, this is why we have included in this Android version a 30-page manual accessible from the title screen as well as in-game help menus. ;)

Does the game have the same opening song? I always liked it, but couldn’t find it anywhere.
