Let’s Show Off Our FreakyForms

Recommended Videos

On a whim, I picked up FreakyForms: Your Creations, Alive! before Thanksgiving. I’d had the money in my 3DS eShop account for a few months, nothing worthwhile seemed to be showing up and I figured it’d be handy to have a new app on my 3DS to make it easier to endure the holiday season.

(We all know; family, as wonderful as they can be, are often best enjoyed in moderation.)

I had no idea how awesome and addictive this unsuspecting, $6.99 3DS app.

For the uninformed, I suppose you could compare FreakyForms to LittleBigPlanet or Scribblenauts, yet that isn’t exactly apt. A few times each day, you can come by and create some Formees. They’re creatures created from 20 parts taken from over 100 different kinds of shapes and figures. After they’re brought to life, they explore a region of a unique planet, which can also be customized. While roaming around the area, you may encounter fruit/deserts/fish, which can be eaten to lay eggs or find trash, other Formees that will provide quests and treasure chests. All of these can provide coins. Chests may contain new scenery for an area, points or coins. Quests can also earn you Friends Formees to purchase or a new Formee accessory. Finally, eggs can also randomly contain a new Friends Formee or a Formee Challenge.

As you can see, it’s all about creating the Formees. Initially, you don’t have too many parts to choose from. As you play, unlocking Friend and Guest Formees, more parts become available and it’s easy to create something you’d want others to see. Thankfully, it’s quite easy to share. You can do so either by StreetPass or the much handier QR Code. You just head to your Collection, choose your favorite and save the image to your 3DS. You can then upload the image and QR code to the internet to share it with friends or strangers. People who also have a 3DS and the game can head into the app, choose to read a QR code and then hold the 3DS up to the computer screen. Just make sure you don’t shrink or adjust the image size, otherwise the QR code becomes unreadable!

Which brings us to the sharing. Any Siliconera readers playing FreakyForms right now? Let’s show off! Here are some of my best creations.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica‘s Kyubey:

Pokemon Black/White‘s Petilil:

Final Fantasy Moogle:

Katamari Damacy‘s Prince:

Super Mario‘s Bob-omb:
(I swear, he has the wind-up key attached. It just didn’t show up in the screenshot.)

And a few original characters:

Who else has made Formees they’re particularly proud of?
