This Week In Sales: Armored Core V Is Another Success Story For From Software

From Software have built a name for themselves in the last two years or so, and it shows. Armored Core V (PS3) was the best-selling new game in Japan last week. It sold close to 164,000 copies in its first week, outselling Armored Core IV by a wide margin.

For reference, Armored Core IV (PS3) sold 39,261 copies in its first week in 2006, so that’s a gigantic improvement. From Software are easily one of the more interesting success stories of late, and it should be interesting to see if they can maintain this success going forward.

This Week In Sales: Armored Core V Is Another Success Story For From Software

At #2 was Resident Evil: Revelations with 146,559 copies sold. There’s no other past title one can directly compare the game to, but we’re curious to see how it holds up in the weeks to come.

The #3 game was Tales of Innocence R, with close to 55,000 copies sold. Considering the PlayStation Vita’s low userbase, that isn’t a bad number. What’s interesting, though, is that Innocence R’s release didn’t make too much of a difference to the Vita’s hardware sales for the week.

Next week will see the release of Ragnarok Odyssey on the Vita, followed by Gravity Rush the week after that. On February 14th, the 3DS will get its next major release in the form of New LovePlus.

impressive this is the first time a vita game made the top 3

    • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

      I’m glad about that.

    • James Beatty

First time a vita game has been on the top 20 i believe.

      • PoweredByHentai

        You are wrong:
        http://andriasang.com/comzgp/media_create_20_to_30/

        28. Ridge Racer
        30. Shin Kamaitachi no Yoru

        • James Beatty

I guess i missed that. :p When did that happen? I don’t remember seeing it on Siliconera.

          • PoweredByHentai

I provided you with the Andriasang link.  Just how lazy do you intend to be?  :P

          • James Beatty

Ah, okay. That was the first week of sales. I forgot about that :P I haven’t seen any of them since they dropped out of the top 20 after a week so i forgot. My bad :P

  • SolidusSnake

Awesome, I hope Armored Core kills it in the US as well.

This is an epic comeback for a series if I ever saw one. Dear god, I hope everyone spreads the light of this game.

      • raymk

I actually just got into the series yep :P.  Plan on buying this and past games to catch up on this awesome series.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

By all means, give the old games a shot, specifically the AC4 games as practice for AC5. You can play almost any AC game without worry of continuity.

  • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

Never mind. Forget what i said…

    • OneOkami

      ?

He said it didn’t make much of a difference.  I wouldn’t say its a good start, not when you’re struggling to outsell your 7+ year-old predecessor.  I’d expect things to eventually pick up, but this has not been a good launch.

      • http://twitter.com/DanijoEX DanijoEX

        Nevermind…

  • James Beatty

Good to see Resident evil revelations selling well. I hope it continues to sell well in all regions. That beta plus the price drop of the game should greatly increase sales.
It also looks like MH 3G will reach it’s expected sales next week.

  • badmoogle

Well done FS,i hope they expand and become even more successful in the future!

Now if only they could improve the technical aspects of their games, then they would be perfect.

  • aoihana

Great chart! Very pleasant that Revelations did so well, and ecstatic to see Vita software in the top 3! (^v^)

That’s just great, but I hope the hardware sales start to pick up soon! Fight Sony! Fight! ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

I wonder how well received New Love Plus will be? I hope it does great! (◕‿◕✿)

Regardless, I’ll be contributing to the charts, and that always makes me happy! ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ

    • James Beatty

I’m betting that New love plus will sell pretty well.

    • Aoshi00

I’m hoping I would be able to get the Nene LE.. right now it says sold out on AmiAmi and PlayAsia would open pre-order on release day 2/14.. I’m worried *.*… now I know there’s LE there’s no way I could get regular.. anyway, grabbed my 13-2 LE w/ the ep i novella w/ the OST, sweet package :)

  • malek86

What’s with the Gravure sales? Did every Idolmaster fan suddenly get a permanent paycheck raise last month? The previous volumes didn’t sell nearly as much, aside from Vol. 3 which could have been at least partly explained by the holiday effect.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

I haven’t paid attention to these before, but considering that Vol. 4 sales are nearly identical to Vol. 3, I’d imagine it’s the same 18,000 people trying to collect the entire series.

      • malek86

Yes, and that’s the problem. Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 both sold less than 10.000 units, since they didn’t appear in the Top 20 during their launch weeks. I normally expect iMas fans to just pick up everything.

My only possible explanation is that the anime episodes 1/3 (the ones contained in those two volumes) kinda sucked. The anime started picking up steam from episode 4 onwards.

Either that, or the fact that Gravure Vol. 4 apparently had swimsuits.

        • http://www.siliconera.com Ishaan

We will never understand the thinking of crazy Idolmaster fans. :(

        • Juuu

It could very well be episode quality rather than costumes, since vol. 1 was also a swimsuit game. To be fair, wasn’t volume one packaged exclusively with the IM@S 2 special edition? Anyways, if it is episodes, expect whatever game comes packaged with ep. 20/21 to sell like hotcakes. ;p It’s considered the best of the run.

From Software is a powerhouse to be reckoned with, anything they make is worthy of purchasing. Also Best of luck to the Vita’s first steps to recovery, it jumped an extra 3k sales from last week (for 15k to 18k.) it now needs to keep that momentum and march forward!

    Go AC, go!

  • skymap

I’m glad to see Revelations do well. Hopefully it will do better in NA and EU and justify future games that evoke feelings of the classic series.

    • Luna Kazemaru

RE is fine how it is now but yes Hope it sells well.

  • a b

love from software,  but I haven’t played a ac since ps2;I ,might pick up ac5 once it reaches Canada .

  • SetzerGabbiani

So, since Beyond the Labyrinth has tanked, I suppose that means we will not be getting it in the US.

    • malek86

We might still get it, depending on what Konami thinks. Since the 3DS is a new platform, they might want to try and get ahold of the RPG public in the west. Also, maybe Nintendo will come to the rescue. They seem to be doing that often lately.

  • sandra10

From Software games are now always on my radar after loving both Souls games to death. ACV looks really interesting but I’m worried about the framerate drops. I never found DS unplayable because of them but I think that has more to do with the combat. I don’t know how that will affect something like Armored Core which seems more action packed.

  • MrRobbyM

Great work, FS! You’ve easily become one of my favorite devs within the past few years.

  • cj_iwakura

    Armored Souls confirmed for 2013.

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Awesome, while Innocence: R sales weren’t amazing they made it to the top 3. I expected as much really, given it’s a remake of a game that was released not long ago on a very popular system in japan, this time on a system that still has a rather slim player based domestically.

I hope the game keeps charting at least and tops the 100k sales in Japan, as I’d like to believe high sales for this game would translate into a higher chance of localization!

  • PrinceHeir

    FFXIII-2 still hanging on :P
