Last night, Famitsu magazine revealed that one of Rune Factory 4’s bachelorettes, Kohaku, would have a butterfly monster lurking inside her. Famitsu.com gives us a look at her today:

Once you defeat Kohaku’s monster form, Ambrosia, in battle, you can date her. That’s quite the transformation, isn’t it? Here’s a look at her in the game:

Another character, Dylas, is one of the game’s bachelors. You can date him if you choose to play as a girl. Dylas starts out as a monster, too, though. And what a magnificent monster he is! Say hi to Raiden:

Rune Factory 4 was initially slated for release in Spring, but has been delayed to July.

    Unf. That character art for Raiden is sexy. Too bad in-game isn’t as biseinen looking, but still looks good. But why so much green hair for the girls? I know it’s only two so far, but that feels like a lot with how few we have to go by now. ouo;

      Yeah, I keep expecting something like that to be a choice, but it never is. But Harvest Moon DS Cute (in Japan) had the system where you could be “best friends” with a female NPC like the Harvest Goddess, though. And I think you could raise a random kid with her, or something.

      It seems like fans would want the potential for some yaoi or yuri action, though.

       I’m kind of amused by her dialog in the scene.

      “It’s flower season! ♪ Step aside, bugs! ♪”

      She could be telling the bugs to just get out of her way, but I think she’s implying that she wants them to get away from the flowers so she can have them all to herself.

          He’s saying (in a very rude sounding way, feel free to throw in an expletive or two if that’s your thing)

          Overly literal translation that gets the meaning but sounds too fancy:

          “If you don’t have any business with me, don’t accost me. I don’t have (free) time to be concerned with you.”

          At the advice of my girlfriend, here’s somewhat more colloquial that captures the spirit much better, maybe misses some nuance:

          “If you don’t have any business with me, don’t talk to me. I don’t have time to mess around with you.”

          Very different from Kohaku’s adorable way of speaking, yes. ^_^;

          [There are some Japanese words that are very basic rough vocabulary in Japanese, but have nuances that are difficult to get in English without using fancy vocabulary words.]

    Dylas feels like he’s one of the #4Horsemen, in human form.

    Also, this reminds me of the whole monster x human coupling, which Micah had for parents back in RF3.

    Just for more info, Kohaku is naive and enjoys being in the sun. Her seiyuu is Satou Satomi.
    Dylas doesn’t talk much, but his words tend to come out pretty awkward when he does, so he’s taken the wrong way. His seiyuu is Sugita Tomokazu.

        I doubt it will. Natsume did a pretty damn good job with RF3. Let’s just forget the RF2 voices ever happened!

        Oh, Ayana Taketatsu, Hitomi Nabatame, and Kosuke Toriumi will also be in the game. We just don’t know who, yet.

      It’s not like this is new. In RF3, you were half wooly, and then there was a certain girl who was half-monster as well… oh, and Pia.
      Also, you’re not dating them /in/ their monster form.
      Remember, there’s a huge difference between dating a monster who looks like a human and dating the same sex. Guess what the media would be all over?
      Now, don’t think I wouldn’t mind same-sex relationships in RF, but I’m just being logical.

    With each news like this passing by, my walls of resistance is crumpling bits by pieces..
    My wallet can’t deflect that kind of magnitude!!!

    I’m really liking the diversity among the ladies in this installment. Not that that hasn’t been the case for pretty much all the Rune Factory titles. It’s also nice that the ladies are finally getting an actual female MC mode, not something that was just tacked on like TOD.

    But man, it’s just not fair that the other bachelors get to be manlier looking than the Male MC.  I mean, why even bother having a female MC, when you could just not use pronouns and let the “male” MC marry anyone.  It’s like in 3, just when I was feeling immersed, up popped Micah’s dumb portrait and I was all “Oh yeah, I forgot I was playing an 8 year old girl”. 

    Also, I notice that the FeMC’s portrait’s hair color matches the 3D model, but the Male MC’s doesn’t…what’s up with that?

      In case you haven’t noticed, Rune factory series is like Harvest Moon with RPG and these games are rated E for a reason..
      They need to be umm… child-friendly for them able to reach a wide audiences including younger ones, hoping to raise sales number…

      The charms of Rune Factory are the characters and the artstyle(to me)… The artstyle is what’s making people mistakes them of their age and gender… I doubt the directors would want to make the MC as macho-looking just to scare off the kids and worry the parents… The art direction would turn off the western male adults(not sure bout females..) but Japan’s male or female doesn’t mind that… The fanbase’s majority are ladies is a proof of that(which I’m amazed by that)…

      Plus as usual, Japan gets it first.. Imagine Rune Factory with not-so-friendly direction and rated T being released in Japan.. If it flops, forget the localization as the overseas publishers seeing the sales figures and most likely turned away.. Rune factory would never see the light of the next day…

      So please be grateful that this series is getting localized…

        Hmm, looking at my post now, I can see that I was being rather overly bitchy about a small thing.  I probably could have worded it differently to sound less antagonistic. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Rune Factory art style and Characters (3 is actually my favorite of the handheld ones so far), I was just wondering why the MC can’t kick it up to Dylas-like levels every now and then. If it’s alright for him, why not MC?

        Not sure where you’re getting the not E rated thing, unless your taking my marry anyone comment thing seriously.  I wouldn’t like it if the game’s MC was some hulking musclebeast ala Gears or something either.

        So please don’t think that I’m not grateful that this series gets localized at all.  I really am.  This is probably the game that will make me bite the bullet and buy a 3DS, too.

          Not everybody can be a good-looking super model.. Different people has different tastes of their preferred MC/FC so why not start as plain? Probably that’s why I can relate to all the MC in Rune factory since I have my mother’s face and often being mistaken as a girl even though I’m a guy…

          Remember that Rune Factory is not well known.. The E rated thing is to appeal the series to everyone so anyone can play it, hoping they have the demand for this to stay alive… Don’t get it? i put it into another way.. If the MC is a hulking musclebeast like something from Gears, what would happens afterwards? I leave that to your imagination but I’m sure it won’t sell well…

            No, I meant where did you get that I wanted the series to not be E-rated? I don’t think I said that or meant it.

            Regardless, I have no problem with him being plain, just maybe change his facial structure a little bit or give him side burns or something.  Maybe once I hear his English voice, I’ll be able to see him as more dude-ish.

      Actually, Lest’s (male MC) hair color has now been fixed! You won’t see the change in old Siliconera articles or screenshots, though.

        Oh, cool.  Thanks for telling me.  I was only using Siliconera’s screens for reference.  To be totally honest, I kinda would have liked him to have green hair like Frey, but I’m a little biased since I was a big Carlos and Carmen fan.

      Judging off of the time it takes Natsume to localize, six months to a year after the Japanese release. There is no official statement about it, though.
