Soul Sacrifice, Sony’s True Fantasy Game, Is From Their Japan Studio

By Spencer . May 8, 2012 . 6:15am

Sony is keeping most of the details about Soul Sacrifice, an upcoming fantasy game for PlayStation Vita, quiet until the reveal at the Tokyo International Forum on May 10. We learned one tidbit from the teaser trailer above – Soul Sacrifice is from Sony Computer Entertainment’s Japan Studio.

The few pieces of artwork Sony shared have a dark fantasy vibe. What kind of game is Soul Sacrifice? We’ll find out on Thursday!

  • I hope its action RPG

  • noctis_nox

Well! well. We have a winner. That trailer totally rocks! Hype!

    • GreekGod88

i agree it looks amazing so far
and i really like the monsters/demons they look disgusting a monster should be :P

  • AzureNova

Sooooooo, Demon/Dark Souls Vita lol!? Count me in!

    *Remembers Legend of Dragoon*

    This better be good….

  • badmoogle

I wouldn’t be so sure it’s being developed by SCEJ.
Sure the teaser says Sony Japan but this may be because they are publishing the game.Even if it is developed by SCEJ there are also many chances they are collaborating with another developer.

There are rumors Inafune may be (also) behind it.

    •  Agreed, the Demon’s Souls trailer listed Sony Japan, too. Too early to say one way or another simply from this video.

      • danhese

Sony doesn’t put their name in a game they didn’t have creative input in. Demons Souls was co-developed with SCEJ.

        • Solomon_Kano

No one said they didn’t have creative input here either.

“Even if it is developed by SCEJ there are also many chances they are collaborating with another developer.”

Which is exactly what your example shows.

  • MrRobbyM

So, a faster paced Demon’s/Dark Souls like game with more demonic looking monsters and a touch of Monster Hunter. Count me in!

  • could this be the game people in japan are waiting for? looks amazing!

  • KingGunblader

I don’t have a Vita yet. Change that, Sony!

  • Not interested in all these dark fantasy dark/demon souls wannabes. This game won’t save Vita.

    • sandra10

How does this even look like a Dark Souls wannabe? The fast paced action? The emphasis on magic and co-op? Or is every dark fantasy game going to be compared to Dark Souls even when the comparison makes no sense (like in this case)?

      • It looked just as slow as that dmc by Ninja Theory, I hope people that want it will enjoy the “feel of 60 fps”.

        • Solomon_Kano

Yea, I’m sure it was pretty easy to see how awful it looked behind that woefully thick filter. They sure didn’t fool you!

Seriously, dude? I also love how you flipped from an unwarranted Dark Souls comparison to an unwarranted DmC comparison. Your ability to throw random speculation is off the charts.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Fast paced Action RPG for the Vita that could(?) be a spiritual successor to the Demons Souls IP?

… Where do I deposit my check?

  • boundries_san

This game looks cool.^^ Hope that this one will be able to drive more Vita sales.^^

  • looks intriguing

I’d like to wait for more info before I make a full judgement though

  • no pink hair, no moe, no tentacle rape, no cute girl

    • I suppose you won’t get the entire list in this game, but NEVER rule out the cute girl (or the tentacle rape) in Japanese games until the end credits are finished.

    • takopako

i am not sure why i liked this.

  • The_Real_Oyashiro

From the few gameplay clips, this look pretty interesting!

  • Souji Tendou

Looks interesting, can’t wait for the reveal.

  • amagidyne

It wonder if this means that From Software has kicked off a trend in Japan. Yes, dark fantasy existed before Demon’s Souls, but they may have made it easier or more palatable for publishers to fund this type of game again.

So far, I’m optimistic. Looking forward to seeing some less noisy and darkened gameplay videos.

  • jujubee88

    I like this. :D

  • Saw this on pushsquare at school today and flipped out.  I can’t wait till the 10th! A perfect belated birthday present!

    • jujubee88

Enjoy your birthday, you only get so many of them before the world tells you to stop enjoying your future brithday(s).

Ha! Hopefully that morbid statement should get you in the mood of playing this dark and brutal game. :p

      • SuperSailorV

        Morbid =/= cynical

Hating the world – and possibly yourself – isn’t the same as killing monsters for souls.

        • jujubee88

Have you seen anime? That is literally the motivation for all baddies and (as one commenter said) tentacle rapists!

I also, I just want to say I am not depressed. Atleast, I do not hate myself. Hating others,, maybe. Me? No way Jose.

      • Thank you sir.  Also, so far I have not been dissapointed.  Can’t wait to see the conference tomorrow.

  • Solomon_Kano

Oh, I can’t wait. What little you can see of the gameplay beyond that godawful filter looks pretty sweet. The enemies look sick and the magic certainly looks to have variety. Those are good starting points.

    Just a bit longer.

  • thebanditking

So From Software is not involved huh? I wonder if the name was picked to suggest or try and associate it with Demon Souls. Either way I can’t wait to see what this game plays like.

    • PoweredByHentai

Associating it with Demon/Dark Souls would require this sort of naming convention:

[Insert a word for something menacing/dark/morbid] Souls

  • Christopher Carmona

Interesting, gonna wait for a non-filtered trailer and some real gameplay videos.
