This Week In Sales: They All Fall Down

By Ishaan . May 16, 2012 . 2:31pm

Period: The week of May 7th – May 13th (2012)

Top-seller: Mario Party 9 – 37,353

Nintendo 3DS sales: 46,425 | Total sales: 5,955,834

PlayStation Vita sales: 6,340 | Total sales: 697,099

The week after Japan’s Golden Week holiday ended led to a decline in software and hardware sales across the board, owing to a lack of new releases and the working/studying population getting back into the daily grind. As a result, the highest selling game for the week was Mario Party 9 once again with just 37,000 copies sold during the week.

At #2 was Fire Emblem: Awakening, which continues to sell well week after week. The only new release for the week was Sony’s StarHawk (above), at the #4 slot with close to 13,000 copies sold.

In the realm of hardware sales, the Nintendo 3DS dropped by about half from the week prior to 46,000 units sold for the week. Meanwhile, PlayStation Vita dropped to just 6,000 units sold.

The top-20 software sales chart for the week is as follows:

nothing to do with charts but…..

this is the best news i heard all day

    • Luna Kazemaru

why did you post it here.

      • Godmars

Meh. May as well say it somewhere.

        • Spider-Man

Well there is on open thread.

A respectable start for Starhawk, given the competition and that sales are down across the board with Golden Week ending. Gonna pick it up eventually myself, I missed out on Warhawk and after seeing it at a friend’s I really wish I didn’t.

And it amuses me that Fire Emblem Awakening’s total is still higher than Mario Party 9′s, though that won’t last in all likelihood.

as a vita owner I felt pain looking at the sales this week.

      i agree…..

      • LustEnvy

Same. If it continues and Sony gives up on it, I’ll never buy another portable, that isn’t a Nintendo…and I don’t even own a 3DS.

Looking at charts, you would think that Sony is still in the development stages of the Vita and would reveal it for the upcoming E3.

Hopefully with some top titles, the Vita can turn it around and pick-up hardware and software sales.

I’ll be glad when Persona 4 comes out so I can get a PSVita.

Since nothing else interests me on it.

I have a Vita myself and I love it, but I cant stop from asking you this:

You are buying a handheld, solely for the purpose of a little updated PS2 Game ? I am not hating on the game or the Vita itself, but it sounds really odd to me.

  • Domii

    E3 can’t come soon enough.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

How can Sony reach the 10mln Vita sales this year if they cant even crack 100K in their homeland in one month. This is painful. Hopefully Sony is will take a loss in decreasing hardware cost to swiftly regain the lost momentum and stimulate further momentum in the Vita.

Third parties seem to be struggling to have their games stick on the charts for 3DS, other than that Monster Hunter.

  • boundries_san

T_T it is sad that Code of Princess and Hatsune Miku Project Mirai is unable to come back to the spot after being overtaken once and here i can still see Dynasty Warrior VS which is i thought is not a very good game is even overtaking KH here. Sad week indeed T_T

Well at least FE is still doing well here.^^ hope that they will be able to reach 500k next month here.
