Nitroplus’ Phantom of Inferno Visual Novel Remake Isn’t Dead

By Ishaan . May 21, 2012 . 5:31pm

Back in 2010, Nitroplus announced that they were working on a remake of the Phantom of Inferno visual novel for the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 remake would include new artwork, a new voice track, and an updated story inspired by the 2010 anime series produced by Bee Train.

Nitroplus released screenshots and even a trailer (view those here) for their remake, and announced a summer 2010 release. Summer 2010 came and went and Phantom of Inferno was never released. It wasn’t released last year either.

The game, however, is still alive and well, reported this morning. It has a new release date of October 25th, 2012. You can find a few screenshots in Famitsu’s report as well.

Phantom of Inferno begins with a young boy witnessing an assassination. As a witness, he’s then abducted by the organization that carried it out and trained to become one of their killers. He’s given the codename “Zwei” and befriends a girl named Ein, the organization’s top assassin.

I saw the anime, the ending made me pissed.

    • Saraneth

It was so beautiful but I cried so much.

    • Luna Kazemaru

      But the anime was good.

      • boundries_san

Hell i really love that anime till now lol.

    •  Multiple endings for this game.

      • boundries_san

        Harem ending for sure.^^

  • Juuu

This is all well and good, Nitroplus, but I’d also like to know where Saya no Uta and Hanachirasu in English are?  Hope we don’t need to wait until after this title, as both games are 99% done, and I’m just itching to give you guys my money! ;p

    • boundries_san

……Saya no Uta… ohh how i question my morality for first time lol. (Getting aroused due to gore pics. OHHH god am i still human back then lol.)

  • And meanwhile the odds of the U.S. getting another release with the full content is still minimal at best. Why do they have to use a language and alphabet so alien to English?

  • PinkEggsandHam

Would there be any chance of a localization company getting on this?

Atlus and XSeed have seemed to be trying out VNs lately, and I’m pretty sure a company in the past that went under already translated the game. Also, this would probably be easy to advertise, what with the anime already out, Urobuchi, and whatnot.

It would just be spectacular to read one of Urobuchi’s earlier works.

Nitroplus have a partnership with Jast USA but Jast currently only release pc games. But if Nitroplus were to eventually port this game to the pc then there is a definite possibility that Jast would liscence it, so long as their current batch of Nitroplus games actually sell well of course.

  • Aoshi00

Art looks good, never played the original Phantom of Inferno, I think this was on DVD too? would definitely get this after Robotics;Notes.  I just spent a fortune upgrading to a Jpn Star Wars Slim, so I’m ready for more VNs and Mushihime-sama :)

  • Ladius

They really made a lot of errors with this release, two years ago the franchise was still fresh thanks to the anime adaptation and the X360 visual novel market was still going strong, while now the situation has drastically changed and pretty much every relevant visual novel gets a PSPPS3 port in order to stay profitable :

The worst thing is that Phantom of Inferno’s remake looks fantastic, and that without a PC port we won’t be able to enjoy it. The localized version was decent, but I can’t blame those who couldn’t get into it thanks to the DVD Play formula that plagued some of Hirameki’s releases.

  • The 2010 anime was fantastic except for a sudden growth spurt and the ending. I completely forgot about this and thought it had already released. Not like it matters since I’ll never play it.

I need to watch the original OVAs and I could play the DVD original visual novel that was localized but they removed the eroge sections so it’s not worth it.

  • Very good news, I was waiting for this game since a long time, one of my favourite anime:)

  • I don’t like the anime ending, at first it was beautiful but a minute later 0_0. But I like Ein ending in the game… the happy one of course.

    • There is a “True Ending” version of the anime, which was included only on Blu-Ray, you should watch that:)

    • boundries_san

Lol to think that i here really love the anime ending lol. This series is never about happy ending anyway.

If u remember about the first OP where it speaks about “Karma” it is too shows that “Zwei” need to repay what he had done(Killing a lot lot of people here.)

And in he game itself, Ein ending is not true happy too lol. U need to trample “Drei” feeling here. It is just those series where tragedy is a better thing lol.

  • boundries_san

My first import VA.^^ Man seeing this news is making my heart feeling happy lol.

My 360 is kinda collecting dust now lol as i bought most of my game for PS3 or 3DS lol.

I can’t wait to take the ultimate ending again lol(*Creating harem*) lol.

  • I dont know, there is much visuals novels that never go to PS3…what happening?

why that choice of the studios of make games for a console that got very very few sales in Japan and are 6.5 millions under of PS3?

Where is Alquemist? where is Nitroplus? why never see the games of that studios in PS3? WHY?

    • boundries_san

Maybe because if Microsoft gives them money if they release game on their consoles?

      •  But it´s stupid, never thinked that them loss more money making games only for a console that are very dead in Japan and not developt for PS3?

In PS3 there is not otaku/moe fans? why not try?

        • boundries_san

Not really here lol. VN has always be a niche market and i believe most 360 owner in Japan as well as me here, only buy VN for 360 here.

Releasing the game on PS3 especially in Japan will cause the game to have a lot of competitor and in this case causing them to lose some money given  by Microsoft lol. It is just a better idea for them to release the game on 360 to target those small userbase.

          •  I repeat, is IMPOSSIBLE that the otakus only got xbox 360 and dont PS3.

i cant believe that niche only be in 360 and no be nothing in PS3, ridicolous.

          • Luna Kazemaru

Deal with it because you clearly do not understand Japan’s market at all.

    • brian yep

Alchemist had Umineko and Galgun on PS3.
I think X360 has so many visual novels because it just happened to find that niche market of shmups, visual novels, and (western-developed) FPS-ish stuff.
Similar to PSP, except that found a nice balance of mostly RPGs and VNs.
I really doubt Microsoft would pay for exclusivity with the way they dominate this niche market, although they may have started out with that strategy to lure Otaku/moe fans onto that console.

      • boundries_san

Lol where is White Album there lol.^^ Hiiro no Kakera is also one of the VN release on PS3.

      • PoweredByHentai

Except that Microsoft has already lost control of the VN niche market.  Steins;Gate and its sequel Hiyoku Renri no Darling are coming out on the PS3 in a few days.  And then there’s Robotic;Notes, the third title in the Steins;Gate continuum coming out for both the PS3 and 360 as well.  Even before then, it didn’t really have a firm grasp of the VN niche market.

  • Is it written by UroButcher?

    • neocatzon

      yup yup

      • OHMYGOSH! More than half of the cast will die!!! And it will hv downer ending!

        • neocatzon

good guess my friend, it’s UroButcher after all

    • boundries_san

…… All the ending in this game will always had someone dying lol. Even those peaceful ending.

  • Western release!? …no, who am I kidding
