These New Weapons Are Coming To Phantasy Star Online 2

By Ishaan . June 1, 2012 . 3:30pm

You may recall that, a while ago, Sega shared the results of data collected from the closed beta for Phantasy Star Online 2. One of the more interesting pieces of information from their polling of players was that about 20% of closed beta participants said they wanted to see more weapons in the game.

In response to this, producer, Satoshi Sakai, promised that the development team would be adding more weapon categories to the game in future updates. Today, Sakai shared images of a few of these on the Phantasy Star blog. These weapons will start to be rolled out sometime after the upcoming pre-open beta test, and will all be added to the game in due time.

Cruel Coffin (Gun Slash):

Bouquet Rifle (Assault Rifle):

Vaiflos (Rod):

Rust Device (Partisan):

Vol Scale (Sword):

Malmoth Fang (Wired Lance):

I’m so happy this game is coming to both Vita and PC, with cross-play.

PSP2i has gotten me comfortable with Phantasy Star on a portable system, so I’m sure the Vita version will be easy to adjust to.

But damn, this game is beautiful.
I sit here wondering how many hours of my free time this game will consume, and I’m sure I won’t regret a single minute of it.

Not to mention, WE CAN JUMP NOW! Bring on the Pre-open Beta!

    • Zetsomaru

I don’t think the cross-play feature is set in stone.
They said they’d have to test it out and see how it ran on the VITA version first.
I really hope it does work out, however.

  • kool_cid414

I want this game much so!

  • Luna Kazemaru

    Needs more guns.

    • M’iau M’iaut

FOnewearls don’t need no stinking guns, even if they are one of two races who can use an Angel Harp.

One never brings a gun to a Megid 30 fight.

  • Solomon_Kano

I reeeeeally can’t wait to play this on my Vita. I loved the hell outta the original PSO on Dreamcast, so I’m looking forward to this greatly.

    • jujubee88

I never played PSO on the Dreamcast. This will be my first foray into the series.

Truth be told, I am not sure what to expect. If PSO2 (on VITA) turns out to be a social online game with intuitive gameplay mechnics than I will buy it without thinking twice.

      • Solomon_Kano

Given that this takes after PSO, I’d say this is a great place to start. If you wanna get a feel for the series beforehand, you should try out Phantasy Star Universe. If you have a 360, that is. If not, I’d suggest trying Phantasy Star Portable 2. It takes after PSU’s style anyway.

    • Not sure how I missed this thread, dunno if anyone’s even still reading but eh, posting anyway :)

So you know, Vita version is a long way off yet, looking at next year essentially. They only started dev work on it recently so it’ll be PC only for a good while.

      • Solomon_Kano

Oh, I know. I’ll be waiting for the Vita version.

  • Shadowman

Cool! Do we still get the the Dual swords, and Double saber?

  • AoiKaze

I’m hoping for an announcement of a localized version soon…maybe as a surprise from Sega at E3. Until then though, can’t wait for the “Pre-Open Beta” later this month! X3

    • unlikely

      • AoiKaze

        Well I can still hope… T-T

If Sega doesn’t announce any localized version by the end of this year, I’m making a Stowaway character on the Japanese “ships” in game (aka servers), because that’s what I’m effectively doing. XD

        • Solomon_Kano

You shouldn’t be too worried. After all, we’ve seen pretty much every Phantasy Star except Portable 2 Infinity and… well, that was really due to the PSP’s state by the time that came out.

  • Altoire

    Wow.. This looks great..

  • Kitestwinblades

Needs more Neon! XD I hope they bring back the Dual swords, daggers, guns and double-bladed swords. :3 I really like the glowing weapons like Cruel Coffin and Vaiflos. This IS a nice change though.

  • If those weapons have their own unique effects when being used… if only.

Awesome designs tho. Cruel Coffin and Vol Scale really caught my attention.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Guess these fit with the parkourish OP with all that running and slashing, but I still see too much PSU in the style. Rods and cards were just never the best fit for anything but a FOnewman or maybe FOmar.

Want to see more of the wands. For the female forces, Twinkle Stars were da bomb.

  • d19xx

Hopefully old favorites will return such as Frozen Shooter, Spread Needle, Sangeyasha and Lavis weapons.

  • Zenkito

Nerdgasm! Ahhhh I really can’t wait to play this!
