The Last Story Limited Edition Comes With A 44-Page Art Book

By Ishaan . June 3, 2012 . 12:00pm

Xseed will be releasing a limited edition for The Last Story in North America, they announced this weekend. This will be limited to launch copies of the game, and will come with a 44-page soft cover artbook and a custom outer box to store both the game and the art book in. It will cost $50.

The Last Story will be released sometime this summer. Xseed still haven’t announced a more specific release date for the game yet.

OK amazon needs to put this up now please..Though I was expecting more out of this LE but whateva I guess its nice just to get one

    • Ryan Baer

Its just a free extra, since the game was originally 50 bucks before they announced it.

      • revenent hell

yeah but amazon hasnt edited the info yet and knowing my luck I wont get it

  • Paradox me

Wish this was on Neo G..

Pretty nice though, especially for the same price as the regular game. Kimihiko Fujisaka’s art for this game is lovely.

A Collector’s Edition with the OST would have been nice as well. Not Uematsu’s finest, but it’s still Uematsu and it works well in the context of the game.

I really like the main theme for the game. Well, I say “main theme” but I’m not sure if that’s what it is. It’s the song you hear in all the trailers at some point, and one of the female characters is humming it in one of them, too. That felt like classic Uematsu to me and sent this sort of shiver down my back. It was a real “Final Fantasy 15″ moment.

      • Paradox me

Toberu Mono, I believe it was.

Definitely my favorite track in the game and, in a way, embodies my thoughts on the title. Despite its fairly unique combat system, it is in many ways a very classic RPG.

It may not fare too well in direct comparison to some of today’s big RPGs, but it’s a tale that wouldn’t feel out of place on the Super Nintendo or even PlayStation. That was part of its charm, IMO.

        • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Oh man, that’s the one. The minute the lady starts to sing, I get those shivers down my back. Every single time, without fail.

I was really, really, really shocked by how much I loved Xenoblade, so I’m very much looking forward to TLS as well, even though it’s a completely different kind of RPG. They’re both an older style of role-playing game in their own way, I suppose. Xenoblade is something like an advanced “PS2-era JRPG” and I mean that in the best way possible. I don’t know what sort of vibe TLS will give me when I play it, but I’m very keen to find out.

Oh, and the instrumental version of the track is fantastic, too:

          • OneOkami

Just out of curiosity, why were you shocked?

          • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

I didn’t expect it to be as grand as it was, even with all of the excitement behind it and all the positive things I’d heard.

As an example, Bioshock was completely ruined for me because I only finally got around to playing it a year after it was released, and by then, all the excitement on the net had sort of sent my expectations spiraling out of control. By the time I played it, I thought it was a good game, but I couldn’t see it for the amazing, groundbreaking game everyone else felt it was.

In the case of Xenoblade, that wasn’t the case at all. Playing it for yourself, even after you’ve heard all the comments along the lines of “BEST JRPG IN YEARS” etc. etc., really is quite something. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I LOVE this track, Invitation to madness is really cool too :)

Glad I’ve got my copy fully paid off now.  What I’m really thankful for though is the fact that I won’t need to change my pre-order to the limited edition and spend more money.  Not that I wouldn’t be willing to, but this summer already has far too many games coming out already and money is a bit tight.

I need to get my hands on a Wii at some point so I can get this. I’ve been looking forward to this game since I first heard about it and the artbook just sweetens the deal abit (and also seems to be a better deal than what I got with the Limited Edition of Soul Calibur 5).

I wanted you for so long Last Story *hugs pre-order*

  • Farid Belkacemi

Do me a favor America : BUY this game ! It’s totally worth it :)

    • puchinri

It should be bought, considering the fuss. x’D

    • boundries_san

      This. 1 million times.^^

Prove to Nintendo that Outside of Japan Jrpg is still alive.^^ Who knows, The Last Story 2? for Wii U?

  • Roberto Armando Iraheta

Guess my pre-order is paying off. Looks so sexy!

This is all very nice for the same price of a retail game. I’m liking it. Hopefully I can get enough cash for a day one purchase.

But… what about the soundtrack… WHAT ABOUT THE SOUNDTRACK???

    *sobs*

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/KCYU2ME2ZYP2BOSCJHM5WTDTRI Eric

That’s not a limited edition, it’s a game with a preorder book.  Got a little excited when I read LE.  LE’s are nice looking cardboard boxes that stand out and have goodies inside.

    • Ladius

The article states that the game and the artbook will be in a custom cardboard box, though :) Probably they haven’t finalized its look and so they showed only the artbook so far.

  • DanteJones

So its pretty much the price of the game itself but you get a totally sweet art book if you get one of the first copies? Thank you for being awesome, XSEED. :)

  • Mago Iichi

44 Pages is already a lot more than what Xenoblade’s NA “artbook” was.Sucks that we’re missing out on the soundtrack yet again, unlike Europe.

    • Alexandra Cordes

Europe has all the luck. Just look at Pandora’s Tower… *sob*

      • revenent hell

Have faith Pandoras tower mey yet come….Actually thats the game I wanted over Xenoblade and The Last story….

        • Christopher Nunes

If Xenoblade and The Last Story made it over to the US, when it was originally announced no plans to come to the US, then for such heck that Pandora’s Tower is coming over as well!

I want to get it because it looks amazing!

  • Aoshi00

This artbook looks even bigger than the Jpn pre-order artbook.  Pre-ordered from Amazon months ago, hope they would include this as well (If not would need to get from Gamestop).

This is valuable since there is no separate official artbook for Last Story even in Jpn, and I love Fujisaka Kimihiko’s art, improved a lot since Drakengard.  So glad the US is getting something as well.  I loved the Jpn ver and can’t wait to play it again in Eng w/ all the British accent (would need to get to know you in your new names again Zael & Calista lol).  The multiplayer was fun too.

Also, classic controller is a must. Uematsu FTW, can’t get enough of his music,

    • revenent hell

I became a little harassing to amazon and asked them if they inted to change the item description to add the artbook in…If not im cancelng the order and going to gamestop to do it as well…an artbook may not be a great “Limited Edition” item for some but it is free and I want it!

      • Aoshi00

That’s a good idea.  If they come w/ all first copies Amazon pre-orders should be good, but definitely need to make sure not to miss this (mine’s alrdy paid for w/ gift card credit), since the art is amazing.

The Gamestop Xenoblade artbook didn’t have much, but it was well made and I would take anything.  Was jealous Europe getting all these LEs, but I must say this slip case and artbook are not bad at all, especially costing the same. Alrdy bought the Jpn Last Story OST as well. I want to hear the Uematsu music from that latest iOS RPG *.*..

    Thank you based Xseed!!!

    • AzureNova

I see what you did there =P

  • AzureNova

    Already pre-ordered and waiting =^_^=

  • Happy Gamer

gamestop listed as June 20-something (think it was 5th or 6th) so i assumed it was then

  • brian yep

    Aww.
I was praying they’d be able to use this artbox, except edited slightly.

    BECAUSE IT KICKS ASS.
At least it is physical anyway.

    • puchinri

That really would have been awesome cover art. I love the one we have, but that’s great~.

    • revenent hell

That is an awesome box cover to be sure

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ty-Austin/100002154794093 Ty Austin

So glad they’re including it with the game instead of doing it as a preorder bonus.

I nearly missed out on the Xenoblade book when the GS I preordered it from only got 3.  (I was number 3, lol.)

  • Zonic505

This reminded me I need to fully pay off my pre-order. Glad to see Xseed doing thing.

  • Blue_card_

Wait a minute, you’re telling me that we get this FOR FREE with a launch copy? Well I am a very happy camper.

    • Historiata

Nope! “The Last Story Limited Edition Comes With A 44-Page Art Book.”
EDIT: Hmm… but they say it’s -also- pre-order… Pre-order with a still mysterious limited edition perhaps?

  • Historiata

Now all that’s left is question of the bonus soundtrack. Come onnnnnn bonus soundtrack!

  • Rio Ale

Is Gamestop doing this too? I know Amazon has already edit’d their info, but it doesn’t seem like GS is doing so.
