In DmC Devil May Cry, Using Devil Trigger On A Boss Slowed Down Time

By Kris . June 5, 2012 . 4:50pm

During a hands-on session with Ninja Theory and Capcom’s DmC Devil May Cry, I happened to use Dante’s Devil Trigger on a boss. To my surprise, the boss didn’t get launched, but instead, time slowed down and her face became a grapple point.

The boss fight itself ended with a scripted sequence in which I grappled from place to place as the boss attempted to prevent herself from being dragged into a giant propeller. I finally smacked her hands and she slid through a river of goo into its blades.

We’ll have more on DmC Devil May Cry from E3 this week.

  • sounds pretty un-dmc…  i think they really missed the boat with this one.

  • so QTEs and slowing down time and using a long hook weapon

is this devil may cry or god of war

    • Domii

As much as I love all the DMCs, I don’t think you should be using Devil may cry and God of War in the same sentence bro.

      • ForeverFidelis

If this is going to use QTES, then he’s more than able to compare this game to God of War.

If most fans had it their way you shouldn’t evil be able to use Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry in the same sentence because of this game.

Dante’s Inferno’s use of QTE’s (among other things but mainly this) caused the game to feel like God of War and inspired many people to make that comparison

If DMC is walking that path with this game, don’t get mad at someone for pointing it out

  • Interesting. Slow down huh? Reminds me of the Max Payne slow down. Sounds fun ( ^.^)

  • Nathan_GreeneIV

Basically its just the quick silver in dmc3 right? Or that chronos key or clock thing in Dmc4? So i dont see any much difference because the other dmc games had something to due with the ability to control time. So seems legit.

    • Kris

Very much like Quicksilver! Right down to the visual effect. XD

      • XiaomuArisu

But how does the game “feels”?
Was it fun or just “What have they done?!?”

  • Domii

So far I love everything I’ve seen of this game, but the lack of Dante transforming in to a badass demon so far, has me really worried. I love turning in to an unstoppable beast in the past DMC games.

  • Göran Isacson

QTE’s and bullet time instead of Devil Trigger, whereas time-manipulation in the past was just a bonus-feature. Nnnnot sure if really want. Not sure at all.

  • Solomon_Kano

Scripted event is something I wish NT would’ve stayed away from here. There are many liberties to be taken in a reboot, but that seems so… against the spirit of DMC. Still, I’ll keep an eye out. It’s not lost me quite yet.

  • Bentan

the words : slid into a river of gore and propeller blades make me want tis game more

  • Speedo Redempteur

Just to be sure … it’s not a slow-mo finish but a slowing time moment allowing you to grapple and QTE ?

If it’s indeed the case then this game took another step to be just liek Devil may cry /sarcasm/
