Rune Factory 4 3D Screenshots Give A Bit Of Depth To The World

By Ishaan . July 4, 2012 . 11:00am

Marvelous AQL have released 3D screenshots of Rune Factory 4, which you can view on your Nintendo 3DS. We’ve compiled them into a single folder formatted correctly to display on the 3DS. All you need to do is download this .RAR file and copy the folder inside to the “DCIM” folder on your 3DS SD card.

Rune Factory 4 will be released in Japan on July 19th. The game will feature new upgrades to the relationship system such as being able to carry out a relationship as lovers before getting married. You can also take a three-man party (including your family members) into dungeons now, should you choose to do so, or ride monster mounts into battle.

Recently, series producer, Yoshifumi Hashimoto, revealed that Rune Factory was initially inspired by his experiences with Dragon Quest, where his favourite part of the game was wandering around the world after having beaten the final boss and talking with all the NPCs.

For some people, it might be easier to use the 3DS ‘s camera to scan the QR code in this page, without having to remove and reinsert the SD card.

By the way, the perspective is insanely weird. The characters are in normal 3D, but the background looks like one of those popping picture books. It’s really unsettling, although I guess you’d get used to it after a while. What’s annoying is that not all backgrounds are like that. For example, in the last screenshot, the building looks simply 2D.

That’s exactly what I thought! I kept getting the popping picture book feel, it was kind of distracting. The backgrounds or maps are largely 2D with the occasional popping objects or particles. It doesn’t have much depth, I think.

The focus seems to be on the foreground, but that leaves the background completely flat, neutralizing much of the illusion.

Thanks for the link, I was a little lazy to pull out the SD card :P

And yeah, the 3D perspective is a little distracting. Maybe when we play the game, we can adjust the slider so it isn’t so distracting.

A lot of my 3DS games, I end up turning off the 3D after maybe 30 minutes cause of eye strain. So I won’t mind playing Rune Factory 4 without it.
I’m hoping the English voices overs are pretty good.

    • I kind of don’t like the way some of the art assets look “flat” with the 3D effect, too. This was a problem with early 3DS launch games. I hope we won’t have to put up with that much longer as devs learn how to use 3D effectively.

(Of course, it could also just be a budget issue here, since so many of those assets are created flat in the first place, to save on time or optimization resources.)

It looks really weird. Some random things will pop out at you when they shouldn’t (e.g. some random jagged edges on the character models) and some things are completely 2D. It looks great with 3D off though IMO.

    EDIT: Also, dat first image.

I like that about Dragon Quest too, seeing how the world change after beating the final boss.

    • That’s one of the best parts about the DQ games. Sometimes that’s all it takes to add to the enjoyment of a game once you’ve beaten it.

  • Wow…This is gonna be a visually stunning game. I hope it gets announced for the US soon…

Just need to wait for my copy, just need to wait for my copy…

wow my impression form looking at the photos on my 3DS where that I guess it works but  I just LOVE the atmosphere and towns of the rune factory  series.

  • I’m really excited about this game. As a 3DS RPG, I’m hoping it will really stand out and as my (most likely) second foray into the Rune Factory series (I’m rushing out to buy the PS3 game as soon as I get paid) I’m hoping it will be a great game.

The town looks really pretty during the winter.

    Is this region locked????

    • KuroiKen

Any game on 3DS is region locked, as far as I know.
