This past weekend, Capcom announced JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD Ver., a high-definition update of their 1998 fighting game, for release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. This morning, we have the first screenshots of the title, which you can view below.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure HD Ver. will have an online matching system similar to Super Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3. You’ll be able to choose opponents based on factors like location, skill and connection speed. Battle points can be earned for characters and player points for individual player strengths. Both will contribute to leaderboard position.

A multiplayer lobby system will also be included where eight players can play at a time, and winners will get to stay on, while losing players will be turned into spectators. You’ll also be able to save fight replays and share them with other players.

I guess the online features will be on par with UMvC3 and SSFIV?

I would’ve liked for it to come out sooner, not that I can’t wait, but that it’s near the end of summer…

I’m not really seeing anything yet that would guarantee a $5 increase over the usual price, but we’ll see.

Maybe it’s just me, but the sprites looks like they just applied an image scaling engine like 2xSaI and not redrawn.

I could see some hatching effects on shaded parts of the body and the hair. But it’s possible it’s just an added effect from the rendering engine.

I’ll still get it even if they didn’t enhance the sprites. I just want to play the game again with online.

    • The sad truth is that most rereleased sprite based games are only given a filter and are not redrawn. If it looks like 2xSaI to you, then it’s quite possible that’s all Jojo here is getting. =P

SSF2THD was sadly the exception, not the rule.

    • For games like these they usually just put a filter on them like they did for SFIII:TS. I want to say that some sprites had that as shading as part of the art style but I dont remember the sprites well.

Looking at the achivements and ammounts of characters, we are getting a port of the DC matching net version.

Guess super story mode was too much, since it would mean a new game with all the greatness that was on the PSX version.

Easily the best gaming news to ever come out of Comic-Con. Holy fudge, it’s still getting me that Capcom is actually doing this.

I really do hope this leads to Namco bringing us CC2’s new JoJo game.
