In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Metal Gear Solid series creator, Hideo Kojima, reminisces on the games in the series thus far, and also throws out a little tease about the state of Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, which will be used to develop their future games. Kojima writes:
The Fox Engine is nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along. Originally we were going to do this for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but a lot happened along the way and instead it is being made with the engine they have at Platinum Games.
Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do… on August 30th in Japan to be more specific.
Kojima Productions already have multiple projects in the works that will be making use of the Fox Engine. Upcoming title, Project Ogre, which Kojima describes as a “very free” game, is running on the engine, and Kojima shared photos of the game late last year.
Additionally, Metal Gear Solid 5 is in the works as well, and that project will be using the Fox Engine, too. Finally, Enders Project, the new Zone of the Enders title in development at Kojima Productions, will likely use Fox Engine as well.
Kojima has also stated in the past that he would like to make the Fox Engine available to university students.
