Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy HD Headed To iOS This Fall

By Ishaan . August 29, 2012 . 11:56am

Capcom are bringing the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney trilogy to iOS devices with HD visuals in English this fall, the publisher announced this morning. That includes: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Justice for All, and Trials and Tribulations.

Capcom are being smart about how they’re pricing the games, too. Similar to Ghost Trick, the first two chapters of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will be available for free, and you’ll be able to buy the rest of the story episodically or in the form of a bundle that contains all three games. Pricing details will be revealed at a later date, but for reference, here’s how Ghost Trick was priced on iOS.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy HD has another neat feature: an “Everybody Object” mode that lets you send out the series’ quirky courtroom exclamations along with an animated image to your friends via Twitter or e-mail.

A release date hasn’t been announced for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy HD yet. Aside from this project, Capcom are also working on Ace Attorney 5 (platform unknown) and collaborating with Level-5 on Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. Neither of those projects has a release date yet.

… The classic sprites are way better in my opinion.

    • Bhunivelze

They’re the same exact sprites, just at a higher resolution. >_>

      • The way they redrawn it (or is that a filter?) bugs me.  The judge pictures in particular looks really weird.

        • Aerii

It’s redrawn. In the comparison, you can tell there’s more details in the judge’s beard. I don’t like how they did it either.

      • pothier.adrien

Some of them are clearly redrawn or filtered, as Kuronoa said.

      • Tom_Phoenix

Actually, it would be impossible for them to use the exact same sprites. Unlike 3D models, sprites can’t simply be upscaled to a higher resolution, since the results would be……less than ideal.

So those are either new sprites or they are using some sort of filter.

  • SirRichard

Judge’s beard aside (it just bothers me), the new graphics look rather nice. And hey, about time they decided to bring these out of Japan, they’ve been kicking about for a while now.

  • Strain42

Looks beautiful, and I absolutely love Ace Attorney…but seeing as how this isn’t localization news for AAI2 (speaking of, I just bought the first AAI manga today, I didn’t even know they had that…) or any news of GS5…Yeah.

Still waiting for that to pop up.

  • Tales_of_Master

Now I feel stupid for buying the first game for 6.99$. Still, PW is one of my favorite game series, so I’m defiantly gonna get this at some point.

  • AlteisenX

Love the series, and I still wish Miles Edgeworth 2 was localized. I still like replaying these every year since details slip my mind but since I love it so much…

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

I’ve played them a million times and wouldn’t mind playing and paying for them again…if it was for Android too…

    • Aoshi00

Usually I would say the same, but I finally got an iPad, you could say one of the main reasons was for Party Wave lol..

Not sure if I want to replay the game again, played all Phoenix/Edgeworth games twice alrdy, once in Jpn and then in Eng.. but this would look so nice on the iPad, would try out the free chapters first and decide :)

They really should translate Investigations 2 and put it on the iOS/Android platform if the DS is obsolete.. great conclusion for the Edgeworth series..

  • Sonny Reyes

Cool! They only bad thing I heard(I consider this a rumor) is they ditch the sound when the text are displaying. Y’know, when characters speak and all you hear is *pleep* *plap* *pleep*. Can anybody prove this? Oh yeah, hi-resolution looks great!

This will look sweet on the Ipad!

  • I wonder if the ‘Everybody Object’ will be kind of like the Objection! page.
    I think I might wait until it’s packed with AA 1-4 :)

  • neo_firenze

Series fits the platform flawlessly, I’ll be buying these to play on iPad.  iOS Ghost Trick was fantastic, better than the DS version (I own both), so I have faith in Capcom’s ability to do a good iOS port.

Now let’s hope they do well enough to justify bringing the Ace Attorney Investigations games to iOS, particularly a localized AAI2…

  • So any news of the Android version?

    • They haven’t mentioned anything about Android, sorry.

      • Oman, I hope the Android version can come to US. Because I’m one of the many people that have Android phone (I hope the game is compatible with HTC Vivid, which I have).

  • scratchbach

This has been my favorite series since I played the original, so I’m really happy about this. The new sprites look a little funny, but I’m certain that I’ll get used to them.
Bring over Gyakuten Kenji 2 while you’re at it, Capcom. Please?

  • ragnarok989

Give me an Android version and I’d buy it in a heartbeat. All these iOS exclusive games almost makes me regret getting an android phone…but the iPhone 4S feels so lacking compared to my Galaxy S3 (though that’ll change with the next iPhone most likely) and frankly I just don’t care for the iOS in general. No question that iOS wins in games though.

  • Barrylocke89

Looks pretty slick. And unlike many other iOS ports, the Phoenix Wright games aren’t games that really lose anything due to a lack of buttons.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

They should do the Wright thing and release them on 3DS and Vita downloads. :)

I’ve had Mile Edgeworth’s Objection as my message tone for months, and this…

…as my ringtone for the same amount of time. I’m a huge PW fan. It needs to be spread to everything, though I do believe the original sprites would add to the charm, and not this redrawn art.

  • Budgiecat

I much prefer the original sprite graphics. This doesn’t even look like HD or good for that matter. It looks weird. Like some amateur traced over the original sprites with a marker or digital drawing program. The characters faces look awkward now. Looks fan made now…

  • Tom_Phoenix

The judge seems to be taken straight from the TGS trailer:

Anyway, I hope we hear more about Ace Attorney 5 soon.

  • Anonymous

the sprites used here look a lot like the art made for the game before they were made into sprites…

so i dont think all of the sprites in the new iOS version are completely redrawn. some of them might be but meh.
