New Monster Hunter 4 Weapon Revealed, It Fires Insects That Extract Power Ups

By Spencer . September 4, 2012 . 4:52pm

miCapcom unveiled a new weapon for Monster Hunter 4 called the Misaomushi Cane. This weapon lets players control "hunting insects," highly mobile drones that can jump and reach areas above the player. What makes the hunting insects unique is they can extract energy from a monster and bring it back to your character as a power up.

The power up changes depending on the extract’s color. White increases speed, red increases attack, green increases health, and orange boosts defense.

Famitsu also highlighted some new actions in Monster Hunter 4. Your two Felyne partners can team up for a combination attack. A cat fire skill was shown in the magazine. When there’s a difference in height you can jump using the slide pad and attack monsters when you are in mid-air. Or you can pull a Dragon’s Dogma and jump onto a monster. Monsters will try to shake you off so you have to press the R button to cling on. While you’re hanging on for dear life you can stab the monster with a knife and after enough damage you can injure the monster so it falls from the sky.

A new monster called Goa Magara was also revealed and it will have a big impact on the Monster Hunter 4′s story. Famitsu says we’ll have to wait for another report about this.

    Huh.
I’m having trouble visualizing how this will work…

    Does sound potentially awesome though.

  • Domii

The day this comes west, is the day I’ll buy a 3DSXL to be able to play this beast on the biggest screen possible.

  • GOLD

So i get to be shino from naruto?
    This game must come west!

  • konsama

This is…how should i put it…what the hell? The weapon sounds incredibly weird, is it gonna substitute HH in support or what or we’ll get the chance for 2 different supporters? Or maybe the weapon buffs only apply the user.

  • Jonathan Jay Johnson

This new weapon sounds really odd but it might be most fun part of this game. I can’t wait to try this “buggy” weapon out.

  • Juuu

Hm, jumping on the monsters to kill them? I think you got a little Shadow of the Colossus in my MonHun, Capcom…And I like it! ;p

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

know what this game is missing?…………..punching weapons because a large number of us want to punch the living *SHIIIHT* out of the monsters

    • https://twitter.com/maxiburger maxiburger

That would be so cool! Like a Dualsword version of the Hammer!
Combined with the new Dragon’s Dogma mechanics, it’d be like jumping on top of a steamroller to pummel down on it.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        hahaha yes

    • keithmaxx

I actually want some knuckle weapons for once… Punching will be a much more satisfying monster fighting experience for me.

  • Spirit Macardi

So this weapon essentially turns you into Tommyrod from Toriko?

  • Draparde

Not at all what i expected, though…i’ll have to see it in action to be sure if i like it or not.

  • Asura

I want to shoot a Rathalos in the face with a shotgun.

Since nobody has touched up on the meme, I will:

  • Go2hell66

i’m gonna be honest, i don’t really like this weapon at all, sounds like they’re really running out of ideas, how the hell are you supposed to kill a dragon with insects?

    • Lιβεr LεγιΣ

A group of ants can kill a human in minutes, fear the danger you can’t see…

      • Go2hell66

these are dragon’s though, their scales are as thick as rocks, how the heck is a puny insect going to get through that hide? it might work on the smaller monsters but what about the larger ones like akantor and stuff, a couple of bee stings isn’t gonna slow that thing down.

        • Exkaiser

Insect-based weaponry has always had incredible sharpness in Monhun history. Why should robot insects be any different?

      • Brian

actually I’ve heard of swarms of army ants killing elephants before, don’t count out the little guy >:/.  also since these bugs are in monster hunter they can’t be normal

    • Myles Lee

your not its, the drone are for power ups but you still use the weapon like a lance, and its actually a real good idea… its like a faster hunting horn but a blade instead

      • Go2hell66

that still doesn’t explain how insects get through all those thick scales, i know most of the weapons are pretty far fetched in some way but this one is just ridiculous

i think i’ll just stick with my greatsword, the real mans weapon :D

    • Reno Evangelista

A gun that shoots insect drones that steal powerups is running out of fresh ideas.

ARE PEOPLE AWARE OF WHAT AN IDEA IS? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT AN IDEA IS? DO YOU? I DON’T THINK YOU DO.

In other news, people complaining about realism and then mentioning dragons in the same sentence ought to have a circle of hell all for themselves.

But if I were to be geekier, I would point out that bow guns made of insect parts are traditionally strong against Elder Dragons in MH (by virtue of being capable of shooting Dragon rounds). Don’t know if that’s true of Tri, since I don’t have a ridiculous toaster with motion control.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

THis weapon looks really interesting here.^_^ As i am really bad at using melee weapon here, hope that this weapon will be able to provide me more choice.^_^
