Tales of Xillia 2 Has Its Own Take On Social Links

By Ishaan . September 19, 2012 . 12:05am

Tale Tale Source brings new information on Tales of Xillia 2. Among these is a unique support ability for Ludger. It’s called “mirroring” and it allows him to mimic any other character’s support ability.

There’s news on Milla, too. As previously detailed, she’s back in Tales of Xillia 2, and is described as proud and stubborn. Milla wants to complete her mission (implied in Tales of Xillia that it’s saving the world). Milla has been living with the older twin of the great spirit, Ni Akeria, and she will accompany Ludger on his journey.

Finally, the biggest news of all is the reveal of an “intimacy parameter” that Ludger shares with each character. The choices he makes in character episodes—free missions with the other characters—and long chats help strengthen your relationships. Depending on your relationship level, you may see special chats after battles and learn new Artes and skills as well.

The intimacy parameter level is depicted using hearts (think Zelda’s life metre) between 1 and 10.

But can I sleep with Milla  when I reach max social link or at least imply protagonist sleeps with her and then imply they’re dating afterward? That be really sweet change of pace scoring a beautiful woman considering I’m starting off poor and with an impossible debt with Loan Sharks.

The protagonist seriously needs something positive in his life. Also I see what you see there Ishaan. Mentioning Social Links while posting a header image of the girl wearing a blue butterfly design on her hat.

    • http://amc9988.deviantart.com/ amc99

But Milla already got Jude..? Is that the protagonist name in the first game? Correct me if I’m wrong lol.

      • Arrei

Certain story pieces seem like that might not be a problem in this game…

But going into detail’s gonna be a spoiler.

    • Noba boba

Yeah, i’m thinking you’ll most likely get to date the girls.

    • xavier axol

i would totally max out milla s.link

  • Raze

    If i go for Milia…
Then its like an NTR Route?? lol….

    Poor Jude…

    • Speedo Redempteur

i’m pretty sure it’s an error

EDIT : just read the infos on the japanese website

This information is about Mila in the alternate reality

  • Noba boba

Does that mean you’ll get to date all the female characters? GAWD YES ME LOVES.

    • MrTyrant

Haha Im with you. In others Tales I was mad with the canon pair.

  • s07195

Just read the version of this news on Abyssal Chronicles, and the difference between the story here and there is quite different. Mostly regarding Milla.

Over there, they’re reporting that this Milla is was living with her older twin sister at Ni Akeria (probably the Milla in TOX1, IMO) and so has a stubborn and prideful personality due to her unique upbringing.

    I think it’s a different Milla…

    • MrTyrant

So in the end will be like:

      Ludger: “My Milla >>>> yours”

      Jude: “What!?”

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Ha, “Intimacy Parameter”. That sounds cool, but the leading lady of this one is an 8 year old…………

Oh well, (Runs over to Milla) =P

    • Noba boba

Still gonna get intimate with her, she’s a loli, and i’m starting with her.

      • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Once again, i will said this. Welcome to the Principitality of Loli where all your lolicon dream can be fulfilled by our great ace known as “The Red Bear”^_^

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    • XiaomuArisu

Presea is great….and raine and sheena and collette!
      and Sophie!
      And dont forget Pascal!

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

sheena <3 but I was talking about the Lolicon fans XD

  • XiaomuArisu

Yes!They should have used this in the Radiant Mithology games.

    • MrTyrant

This!! it will be awesome. Sorry mc of Tales because i will create my own Yu Narukami.

    • Christopher Nunes

Agreed! That would be super awesome!

  • Jirin

So it’s Star Ocean 2 except not an invisible variable. And didn’t they also do this in Symphonia? And Xenoblade? And every Growlanser?

I think it works better as an invisible variable.  Character development should feel like character development for its own sake, not tokenized as a collectible item like in Xenoblade.

Also, shouldn’t character side quests happen naturally as you progress through the game instead of being isolated as separate chapters like in Legendia? Whenever they tell you “This is the quest where we are developing this character” it hampers immersion.

I like games with friendship ratings, but are they really pretending this is a new idea? ;)

    • Ladius

There isn’t anything that remotely implies they’re pretending it’s a new idea, though, so the last part of your post is uncalled for.

    • Jonathan Keycross

I agree that invisible ratings would make the experience more “true” to the whole point of character development, but I can imagine people raging for spending more than 30 hours in a game hoping to achieve “X” ending or relationship and they didn´t, since there was no hint at all that they were  in the right direction.

      • Crimson_Cloud

Or in worse case, like Star Ocean The Last Hope, players find out that you don’t get an ending with any other character no matter how hard you tried. You only get an extra scene.

  • Göran Isacson

And that was how Ludger became a mega-macking master with a harem that included everyone from the age of 13 to 63. And everyone saw his pimphand was mighty, and it was good.

Okay so that scenario is probably a little unlikely, but I can dream can’t I?

    • Noba boba

If it’s even just a bit Similar to the social links in the Persona series, then it’s likely it won’t be just a dream anymore, i mean there IS 3 girls+, so a harem pimp plis, Seta and Minato are going to have another brotagonist join them, GO LUDGER, GET DEM BEETCHES.

      • Göran Isacson

As long as the 13 and 8 year old aren’t part of the harem, I can’t really find it in me to deny this. Go forth, Ludger. Go forth and charm.

        • Noba boba

I’m getting them all though, including the lolis.

          • Göran Isacson

Welp, that’s your prerogative. Me, I’m going for the 60 year old dude. At least he’ll have the experience to provide a memorable time.

          • Noba boba

LMFAO, that’s the most disturbing yet funny thing i’ve heard. kudos for that sir.

          • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, what can I say: there are tons of games providing loli-action to give me my fill, but ojii-san action on the other hand? When such a rare treat appears, a true connoiseur of the genre must strike and strike quickly~!

          • Noba boba

Lmfao, i can only imagine what the hell’s going on your head.

    • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

      Gigolo title?

      • Göran Isacson

… I completely forgot about the Tales-series and their titles. But I won’t lie, that WOULD be an amazing title to bestow on the player.

    Persona meets Tales… awesome!

  • Hau To

I really would rather learn my artes through leveling up or even through the lilial orb. Even though, that’s kind of a chore as well. It seems like lately, Namco Bandai wants you to work for your stats gain, skill gain, and artes gain by any other means than leveling up. Nope. You can’t get free handouts anymore. I just hope these character missions aren’t missable.

  • Sardorim

Time to aim for a harem ending! EVERYONE WILL LOVE ME!

  • Crimson_Cloud

Meh, still need confirmation on how deep it is. There were games in the past that had intimacy level of some sort but had no effect on actual plot or ending. And if they are like that, then I see no point of it.

    • Arrei

There’s already a point if it leads to extra chats and artes.

Not every relationship level system ends up changing a game’s ending. Persona 4′s didn’t.

      • MrTyrant

And that’s the problem of Persona, the s. link have no impact in the storyline.

        • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

I found them to be a fun side thing plus evolving the characters persona’s and power. It was like a nice way of giving the characters back story.

    • MrTyrant

Well it’s interesting to see it at least, if you do an event with a character in max relationship. I hope some things can change in the story too but we don’t know yet.

  • http://vindictushots.tumblr.com/ Okuni-chan

I must say it is both interesting and fun to watch the Tales of series evolve. Cannot wait to get this in my PS3~
