By Ishaan . October 1, 2012 . 11:30pm

Nintendo are giving away a “special version” of the original NES Donkey Kong game that they say features exclusive content never seen before in the U.S. via Club Nintendo. How do you get it? By buying one of these five games as a download off the Nintendo eShop:

Style Savvy: Trendsetters

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!

Crosswords Plus

You’ll need to link your the Nintendo 3DS eShop to your Club Nintendo account beforehand, and then buy one of the above games off the eShop before January 6th, 2013.

Your purchase will automatically be registered to your Club Nintendo account, 3-4 weeks later, Nintendo will e-mail a download code for Donkey Kong: Original Edition for your 3DS.

What makes this version of Donkey Kong special? The cement factory level after the first stage, which was in the arcade game, but not in the NES release.

It is cool to see Nintendo promoting their upcoming games’ digital versions with little bonuses like this, but how many times have they re-released Donkey Kong already? It feels like I saw it appear on many many other platforms before.

The arcade exclusive stage is a neat addition but different games would be better in my opinion.

I might consider buying Paper Mario: Sticker Star or Professor Layton and the Mircle Mask as downloadable title.

    It’s supposed to be CEMENT!?

All these years, I thought they were pies.

You also had the very same in DK ’94/GB.

I’d also say having those extra dozens of stages in DK ’94 make it a better pick but that depends on how nostalgic you are.
