Shining Ark Is Kind Of Like Harvest Moon… With Pirates… And Colossi

Sega has a new role playing game for PSP called Shining Ark. The story begins when Panis, a girl with one black wing, drifts ashore on an island. Freed finds Panis and takes care of her.

Ever since Panis arrived Nephilim, a colossal monster, attacks the village when the moon glows red. This monster is so huge Freed pokes at its toes.

Shining Ark uses an active & command battle system for monster battles. You can move around the battlefield, guard, dash, and if you’re close to an enemy you can attack using one of your character’s commands. Each character has their own attacks and you can bring four party members into battle. Panis has a unique battle system that Sega will explain later on.

When you’re not defending the village from pirates or fighting huge monsters, you do everyday island life stuff. Shining Ark has players tend to a vegetable garden, gather dairy products like eggs and milk, and bake bread. The scope sounds similar to Harvest Moon or Rune Factory, well if Natsume’s games had pirates.

Of course, Shining Ark has a fishing mini-game, it’s like a RPG prerequisite.

Players can also hunt monsters for materials.

Shining Ark is slated for release on PSP this winter.

I’d get this. White haired girls with something mystical or mythical about them are one of my favorite things. <3

While I’m weak against twin tails :D

White haired girls for the win.

  • Chris Hansen

So it’s not a dungeon crawler? Color me disappointed.

    • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Umm since when does modern Shining series do dungeon crawler?

      • Chris Hansen

It’s called Shining ARK. The only other shining game with Ark in the title was a dungeon crawler (Shining the Holy Ark). I wasn’t expecting a reskin of Shining Blade. Think before you speak.

How about you chill the hell out.

Please watch the extra added comments. Thanks.

How about you read my comment there? “Modern Shining”

  • Göran Isacson

Wonder if the battle system is turnbased or if it’s some kind of MonHun-inspired affair, because that’s where my imagination goes whenever someones got monsters that big.

    • Kibbitz

It looks turn-based. There’s a series of portraits on the lower-right corner on several of the pictures that seems to indicate turn order by character/enemy.

  • MrTyrant

That’s some weird changes that each game make. Hopefully the slice parts will be better than Shining Bread aka Hearts.

  • MagiusNecros

Man I wish someday Shining Force would get another title developed by Camelot.  Not feeling this one.  I’ll reserve my harsh comments, but I’m not expecting much from this title.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Oh man this one is so different. This’ll be awesome~

  • Gigawings

Pirates AND farming. Just shut up and take my money.

  • HassanJamal

This game looks gorgeous for a PSP game!

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Nice job there.^_^ Sega seems to allow Shining developers to keep experimenting with a lot of different things for the series.^_^ And man i love all the series lol.

From bakery, “Girl” sword and now farming + pirates? I can’t think other new things they can add for the future title for the series lol.

Maybe the next M.C for the series will be a butler and teaches the player how to be the best butler in the world?^_^

  • gk2012

Why are the sexy males in this series always have to be furries? :(

  • Hidayat246

after watching shining heart anime , i think i will miss this game

  • ronin4life

    This… sounds pretty awesome. ^.^

  • Spectacularity

Never really looked into the Shining series but I’m keeping my eyes on this one!

  • Rogerrmark

I guess this is indeed almost a Rune Factory game, but the battle system looks soo Valkyrie Profile-like…

    SHINING ARK!

  • noctis_nox

    Shining localized ark im-po-sib-le!!!

  • $733987

So basically, this is Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny 2?

  • Kibbitz

I couldn’t stand dealing with Hearts’ bread-baking and delivery. Hope Ark’s side stuff is either less necessary or more fun somehow.

Time to break out the dictionary!

  • SprintsMcGee

Oh look, something else for me to import sometime next year. Excitement

  • Tanner Havington

This is why the Vita isn’t selling. People are to afraid to put a game on the system or even put it on both at this point. -_-

  • almostautumn

Wow at those screens! I thought this was a Vita game.

*I love the Vita, but man— after playing the Sol Trigger demo I have really wondered how underutilized the PSP remains. I own about 90% of the NA library (for real), and while titles like Crisis Core, Resistance, and P3P were really phenomenal, can you just imagine if every company could use the system’s full potential?
I know this can be said about every system, but it definitely seems most apparent with the PSP for me. Not to mention the fact that Japan has those terrific open-world games like Akiba’sTrip and Yakuza (and of course VC3/Type-0), which are just mind-blowing in the reality that they never got localized and how non-import gamers really have barely had a chance to genuinely explore what the PSP can actually do…

The debate; is it a shame that Sony isn’t pushing the Vita more onto publishers (by whatever means), or are these later PSP titles the games that we’ve actually been waiting for anyway? Did the Vita genuinely arrive too early for its own good?

well time to recharge my psp for this “shining ” game . oh psp salvation has come for you to be played again
