I have not played a DW game since DW4. I may have to give this a shot. I will probably wait until its cheap enough to import the PAL version since I don’t want a digital copy.

    • I highly suggest DW7 first. With its story mode being the best in the series, I dunno if DW8 will do it twice with its new characters. There are a few significant changes in the traditional game mechanics, but it’s serviceable.

      • TheTimeMage

Well a quick search on GameFaqs brings up DW7, DW7 Empires, and DW7 Extreme. Which of those would you recommend? Also how about DW Next for Vita? I heard good things about that.

        • Alfy Masamune

Go for the main title DW7 as it has the story mode and by God its freaking amazing!

        • Testsubject909

DW7 is a great way to go, the story mode is the most engaging one in recent years. It has it’s fair flaws but it’s widely considered a great new starting point for the series and one of the best DW as well. It’s also the first to follow the story all the way through into Jin.

The DW for Vita is in part tech demo for the vita’s touch and motion capabilities, they can’t be deactivated but at the very least it’s handled well and controls just fine. It detracts from the action for some, but I personally enjoyed it. It’s a solid on the go game and looks beautiful and has a lot of content to last for quite a while.

  • Akimitsu

Bao Sanniang looks a lot more grown up and Guan So looks even more feminine. I find it amusing that such a manly man like Guan Yu could have children that look so feminine, but then again, it is Japanese culture and most young warriors in DW games look like that.

    • Johnnyxt

Guan So is his son in folklores, he however was never mentioned in any historical records. And yes I agree its just a depiction of Japanese character designers to make them look more dazzling.

      • Testsubject909

Well, the series does have a female fanservice to pander to. I don’t mind personally and it is offset by the gruff looking tough looking older officers and the badass ones as well. It’s a nice mixed visual bag of characters.

  • Wow, Bao Sanniang is actually dressed sensibly this time – by recent Dynasty Warriors standards, at least. Then again, a lot of the young/pretty characters in 7 looked like they were in a skin-exposure contest.

  • NANAandLIZZYfanatic

Looks like Tecmo may have had their hands on Bao’s new look.

    • Testsubject909

And I have no problems with that. Muahahaha! Ah…

By the way, to add to the roster there’s the third son of Guan Yu that’ll fill in the roster as well as Guan Yu’s daughter. There’s an impressive addition of characters again which is quite satisfactory. Here’s hoping that they follow through with DW7’s story mode and enable two player co-operative for the story mode this go around while sensibly limiting the second character to on-field available officers.

I wish they would someday release DW and all the sub series (Empires etc.) in the same packet at the launch. Well for now, I start the saga with Orochi 3.

  • Göran Isacson

Holy heck how busy did Guan Yu get? How many of his children make up the Shu cast now anyhow?

    • Mr_SP

He only had four children… not too many.

  • Brion Valkerion

Koei is doin work with photoshop these days. Their content editorial staff is getting pretty good lol.

  • Aznonymous

The graphic looks amazing but the actual game might not be the same =/

  • A little correction guys. It’s not “Guan So,” It’s Guan Suo.
