The Origins Of Fei-Yen HD (Hatsune Miku Design)

By Ishaan . December 15, 2012 . 10:30am

Super Robot Taisen UX has a mech named “Fei-Yen HD,” which a few folks pointed out looked like a mash-up between Virtual-On’s Fei-Yen and Vocaloid superstar, Hatsune Miku—and that’s exactly what Fei-Yen HD is.

She’s actually based on this toy, titled “COMPOSITE Ver.Ka VR-014/HD Fei-Yen HD,” for those that want to know. She comes with an alternate unmasked head, alternate hair, a stand, microphone, and a pair of leeks.

A Fei-Yen Miku design was also recently featured as a module in last year’s Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend.

That is actually a really creative design.

  • konsama

The design is so cool. xD

  • Kevadu

Er, the module in Project Diva Extend came first. The figure was based on that.

And I have the figure, it’s great.

  • DurableTomb

Knowing where she’s from is nice, but… why was she picked for the roster in the first place? If they were going for something obscure, why couldn’t they have brought back Mechander Robo? At least they have a little experience with that series. Or if they want to go really obscure, why not use the marketplace robot from the short “A Tale of Two Robots” from the movie “Robot Carnival”? Or why not just use Devilman, since they have been using more organic units as of late and they have used so many of Go Nagai’s works before?

    • Kevadu

      Miku is not obscure ;)

      • DurableTomb

Miku no, the robot Miku yes.

    • WingsOfEternity

I’m guessing she was picked because Vocaloids are still the #1 most trending thing on NND, and will probably remain so for a long time.

    • LynxAmali

Devilman really has nothing ‘mechanical’ about it though, unlike Orgun or Blade (which literally functions as armor and they also have their mech team mates.) The only way I could ever see it getting is if they eventually used the Versus movies.

Hajime Katoki must be happy having Fei Yen HD in SRT UX.

Not that it’s the first time a Katoki model is in SRW but yeah I assume so as well xD

      • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

I know, but seriously that fei yen?

  • Shadowman

So she use to be a mech? Wow.

  • XiaomuArisu

    Thats unexpected…
    But Awesome!

  • MrTyrant

Now makes me wonder if they’ll add more Toys in srw as robot. I am fine knowing that someday we can get special units for characters too like good old times.

    Someday….Nanoha will be in SRW.

    • z_merquise

It’s possible. They were able to add mechs that originated in a video game (Virtual On) and a manga (Crossbone Gundam).

Personally, I would really love to see Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner in an SRW game. Liberation Maiden would be cool too. Or maybe some more obscure games like Armored Warriors (a 2D mech beat-em-up game by Capcom):

      • LynxAmali

It will never happen. ZoE in SRW, at least. (:_;)

You have to consider Konami and BanNam are competing companies. Hell, even Virtual On was a shock back when Alpha 3 came out.

  • Tom_Phoenix

Personally, I’m more interested in what role she will play in the game.

The interesting thing about Fei Yen HD is that, whereas the regular Virtual On mechs are telepathically controlled from another universe, this one seems to be directly controlled. Or more accurately, Miku seems to be wearing the robotic parts like an armoured suit. She even gets a cut-in, which the Virtual On pilots didn’t in the games where they were present:

That makes me think that Miku will be present as a human character during the dialogue sections. And if that is the case, we might see some crossover between her and the Macross Frontier characters.

Finally, something to fight Hachune!! GO!! MIKU ROBO!!

I thought the Virtuaroids in Virtual On are operated remotely via arcade boxes setup by DNA and RNA for some war? Well, at least in Operation Moongate. Virtual On actually have quite some backstory, I remember either Dengeki or Hobby Japan running some photonovel for it as well.
Anyway theres some of the backstory at the JA wiki page.

As for Fei Yen HD in the game…
I guess her role would be just another unit to field out.
Unless she has some original backstory (experimental unit of DNA?).
Or she is just a passer-by though some crossgate-like device and decided to stay or forced to stay.

Is UX a parallel world with all the series already there or they come together via means like a crossgate by some circumstances?

Can’t wait to see the orignal heroes and villians of UX.

Always meant to ask, is that Chiyo-chan going googly eye in your avi?

        • http://iron2000.blogspot.com/ iron2000

Nope, thats Seto San from Seto no Hanayome.
I still have a few more googly eye avatars but stuck with this one as its my fav :P

          • M’iau M’iaut

Did she catch Lunar kissing things Lunar is not supposed to kiss again?

          • http://iron2000.blogspot.com/ iron2000

            Maybe :P
Can’t remember why since its been 5 years.

    • J_Joestar

Feels like this game should include Macross+ for Sharon Apple Vs. Miku.

  • Göran Isacson

And now I’m wondering if Vocaloids and Virtual On is somehow part of the same universe, and if we’ll see other Vocaloids pilot other Virtuaroids.

Not gonna lie, that would be pretty awesome.

  • Kai2591

I haz the figure. Still unopened :)

  • vileBrenman

    OMG it’s Hatsune Mecho!!! lol

  • Tachimukai

In case anyone is curious, the HD stands for “Heart of Diva”, not high-definition.

  • Alfy Masamune

EEEWWWW, Get out of this game.

  • Dem Bones HD

My friend wants to know if Fei-Yen HD use Miku’s actual voice, like in her other games?
