Is Soul Suspect A Murder Mystery Game From Square Enix?

By Spencer . December 25, 2012 . 1:12am

imageSquare Enix might be working on a new game called Soul Suspect or maybe Murdered: Soul Suspect. The Final Fantasy publisher filed a trademark for Murdered Soul Suspect in Japan, which sounds like a murder mystery game to us.

Perhaps, players will control a recent murdered victim’s soul and have to search for the suspect? Considering how well the murder mystery setting worked for Persona 4, we’d welcome another role playing game with a similar setting.

“The Final Fantasy publisher”… REALLY weird choice of words.

    • Should be “mobile game maker.”

  • Go2hell66

Gee SE just can’t get enough of these mobile games

    • At least you know what it is already! :D

  • More stuff like Ghost Trick please? Wait, wrong publisher.

    • Great game, but yah that is true, it is likely GREE or something of the like.

  • Unlimax

I really hope its an RPG style game ..But i think the result might be a Visual novel game .. maybe who knows !

  • Z3

    It’s probably a social game

  • murdered soul? searching for suspect? sounds like ghost trick to me, but I’ll keep my hope as low as possible, it might be just a new social or browser game lol

    • Ghost Trick was amazing, and yes I am guessing GREE or some other garbage like that.

  • KyoyaHibari

    Tonberry, you evil bastard…

    • Syn

Truer words have never been spoken, anyone who meets a tomberry for the first time without prior knowledge understands why they are to be feared…………… Then you fight two……… o_O

  • Alfy Masamune

i miss when they used to spend all their time and resources concentrating on one game at a time, FFXIII-Versus would have been out ages ago by now and most probably FFXV, heck we’d probably be watching trailers for FFXVI.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Development of ‘the next one’ always starts before the current release is out, and if anything there are fewer ‘other’ games than the days of separate entity Square and Enix. No Vagrant Story, Dewprism/Threads of Fate or Musashi and the number of handheld titles has dropped from the DS as well. While I suspect the latter are the types of teams most likely to be moved to social, I think claiming their was a time the companies’ only thought was the next full Final Fantasy — other than perhaps FF1 :P — probably is not correct.

    • If that were true I would agree with you, but it’s so far from the truth that I can’t agree with you. Can you at least try to inform yourself a little before making a comment like this?

  • monkey

    it could be an rpg……..naaa

  • XiaomuArisu

    Something like Ghost Trick?XD

    • That was a great game. :/

      • XiaomuArisu

        Yes it is!
        First Ghost!
        Then Trick!
A good game just few played.

  • bobbington

Hmm final fantasy versus Xiii…. I can’t understand why everyone is so hyped over a handful of screenshots and a little cutscene footage? It’ll prolly be just as lame as the rest of the XIII games.that’s imo by the way. As for this, well we can hope for a decent game, but…. bah I have lost all faith in em tbh. They’re good at publishing others’ games but seem to have lost focus somewhere along ze way. just get on with ff15 already, let’s hope it’s not a train wreck.
And stop arsing around with crappy smartphone games. Bad sqeenix.

    • M’iau M’iaut

Please take a moment to read our rules. Please keep the posts on topic. This isn’t about Versus or 15. Thanks. Also the smartphone is very much a ‘console’ in Japan.

      • bobbington

Thought you’d have something to say bout that… it’s an opinion… what happened to freedom of speech?

        • Freedom of speech is more than welcome, but the rules are meant to keep people from misusing it. Please follow them in the future. Thanks. :)

          • bobbington

Okay I apologise:) it just winds me up is all.

      • bobbington

Also it’s relative couse it’s about SE. Smartphones may very well be a ‘console’ in Japan, it’s still a cheap way to make a quick buck and I don’t like it. I’d rather have one quality game from a company per year than 57 half assed social ios games. Consoles for gaming, phones for making calls please. Just saying….

  • Draculoid

Wow, so many games with “Soul” in the titles recently.

    • Indeed. lol Most are good though, so meh.

    • Elvick

      It’s the new Quest.

  • Yet another social game for the masses!

  • Omikuji

Re guarding if this is a mobile app, Square, hey Square, I love you and all which is why I’m saying this. Maybe… slow down a little bit on the mobile ipad/iphone apps? I know they make a lot of money, and I do very much actually enjoy them since they have a lot of classic Final Fantasy stuff laced in there like those card games you’d play in the games themselves, but I think you’re beginning to over saturate the market. I’m just saying, maybe focusing on improving the ones you have before you make more and more?

Just saying. I know you’re making a stronger focus towards it, but some music in your games would be nice.

Also I donno if this would be a murder mystery or not. It would certainly be interesting to see what becomes of this.

  • Göran Isacson

Murder mystery advertized with a picture of Tonberry. I see what you did there, Silicon Era.

Hoping it’s a Phoenix wright-esque game, and considering I don’t know how you can spin a GREE-esque game out of a title like Murder Mystery… I might just get what I want? Maybe? is it possible?

  • M’iau M’iaut

Love that pic on the front page Spence! I had so much Tonberry hate in 11 it was obscene. I made it my personal goal never to get rid of it. The damage my poor Nyanyaan suffered at the hands of a Tonberry NM are the stuff of legends.

  • Does it say who the developer is? Or is Square publisher and developer?

    Probably an iOS game.

  • LegendaryLos

I hope a tonberry is involved somehow.

  • Tonberry, the ultimate serial killer.

    • Testsubject909

First time I met one, in Final Fantasy 6, he didn’t seem like much of a threat. But the fact that he moved back and forth just kind of made me wary since no other creatures did that…

And then, during a random encounter with a Tonberry, I failed to push it back in time and… he suddenly killed off 3 of my party members.

Panic set in, and I desperately wanted to run away, but it was too late. The Tonberry was too close… I perished.

That day. I learned a very important lesson.

Letting a Tonberry close is asking for a bad touch.

  • WingsOfEternity

I’ve been wondering what site do you guys use to search these new trademarks

  • Lightning Is Murdered: Final Fantasy XIII

    • Testsubject909

Sounds like a prologue to Final Fantasy XIII-2
