Mugen Souls Z Has Players Conquer Twelve Worlds To Be The Next Undisputed God

By Spencer . December 26, 2012 . 1:09am

mugenCompile Heart is working on a sequel to Mugen Souls with a new character vying for the title “Undisputed God.” You play as Shirma in Mugen Souls Z who uses… a casket for a weapon. Sachika Misawa (Kuroyukihime in Accel World) voices Shirma. Ace (Yuki Matsuoka) and Nao (Rie Kugimiya) are her followers.

Dengeki PlayStation explains there are twelve worlds for Shirma to conquer and that means plenty of battles. Mugen Souls Z has been revised to add in more cooperative attacks and a mysterious component called “Chou-Chou Energy.”

Kenta Sugano is the director and Keiji “Shooting Star” Inafune (not the Inafune from Comcept) is the producer. A-10, Nanamedakei, and Ryoji are character designers.

Mugen Souls Z is slated for release on PlayStation 3 in spring 2013. Reserve the game and you’ll get a code for a Nepgear Veil avatar as a bonus.

Well, well, well….. As they say “No rest for the Otaku”!

  • malek86

Is “Keiji Inafune” becoming a sort of in-joke in the industry? Or maybe just at Compile Heart?

    • KiTA

IIRC, he shares the same name as the guy who created Rock Man. So they have a lot of fun pointing out that it’s not the same guy — last time they called him “Shin Keiji Inafune” — “Perfect Keiji Inafune”, the kinda title you’d give to a RPG boss or something.

Or maybe it really is the same person and they’re REALLY having fun with people, heh.

Call me if it doesn’t get censored in the US

    • Elvick

They wouldn’t have censored it if they could have gotten away with it.

If you don’t know that about NIS America by now, then I feel bad for you.

      • landlock

It wasn’t even much of a censor at that. Really there were two choices do a little editing or remove the whole scene. They made the right choice.

People get upset about the smallest of things it like they would have prefered the game not to have got a English release at all.

      • Brandonmkii

I have a feeling that they could have gotten away with it if they had made a separate version for EU/PAL territories. Aksys handled RoAW2 and the English version has little to no censoring, while the European version cut out the bathing scenes or something. (correct me if I’m wrong.)

  • Who knew being an “Undisputed” God would involve so much work lol. Looking forward to this =^_^=

    • Yuriangels

will, all Compile Heart games sequel have be getting very time, so i cant wait!

  • XiaomuArisu

So Nao will be a tsundere?

  • DesmaX

I just hope the Peon Ball doesn’t go apeshit and kill my whole party this time around

Might get Mugen Souls held off because people were bad talking it

Alright Compile Heart, lets try to make a good game this time.

But Mugen Souls one is good …

  • I actually just got Mugen Souls yesterday for Christmas.

I will admit, sure, it’s kinda… Unpolished (and a little bit skeevy but I can ignore that), but I like the idea of the battle system, and it controls smoothly. Also it has the same kind of weapons and statistics that I remember from NIS games, and it’s way of doing battles kinda reminds me of Phantom Brave/Makai Kingdom– just in 3D.

I do hope that the sequel polishes on it a lot though, it’s very Disgaea-like and I enjoy that part of it.

Also, improve on the programming in terms of load times. I know there’s a data install for it but my PS3 is near bursting as it is.

    • puchinri

The skeeve factor is a somewhat lower percentage to me for this, but it seeming to be fairly unpolished doesn’t help. Is it worth getting at a lower price or used? (Is it more classic RPG, or Disgaea-based as far as map and locations go?)

      • It’s classic RPG in terms of map/locations, but it’s battle screen is very Phantom Brave/Makai Kingdom inspired in terms that you can move a certain amount and then make your attacks, and then can do combos with other characters depending on turn order.

I think if you can find it for $20, $30 max, it can be worth it. It’s so far an interesting game to say the least, and I kinda appreciate that Chou-Chou’s multiple personalities are actually outright different forms– I had actually been under the impression that it was gonna be purely a personality difference that would’ve had no real difference between them, due to not looking at any supplemental information about the game other than it’s existence, but instead it’s full-out different characters. For some reason this is a plus to me. (also Almaz voice for Ryuto. It’s great.)

In general, I’d say the worst bits is that the English voice acting’s a bit flat otherwise (there is a Japanese voice option, however), and I’m kinda annoyed that you actually need to buy clothes for created characters or else they’re running around in their underwear, but that’s really my biggest gripes so far with the game. Other than loading times.

        • puchinri

Ahhh. That is lovely then. Perfect, even.

I will definitely try to hunt it down for that price then~. And that is quite interesting as well.

Huh. Those aren’t particularly terrible gripes, so that’s a plus for it. Loading times could be iffy a bit more, but yeah, I think I’ll actually start looking for the game.

          • I at least forewarn that I’m generally very forgiving towards games, but I can say that I went into this game pretty clean, and didn’t actually know about any negative OR positive press about the game– only thing I knew about was the censorship deal, which doesn’t bug me given what was removed.

I’m gonna have to play more of it before I could really go in-depth, but so far, it’s at least a decent JRPG. Also, I at least appreciate that there’s some level of customization for created characters. Not static like NIS-game characters. Just, yeah. Clothes. I might grab that free DLC that’s around to see what gets added.

          • puchinri

That’s fair, I like to believe I am too. I did know about the pros and cons though (I try to be open-minded and not biased though). (And yeah, rather glad it got censored, sorry to those who didn’t want it censored.)

Customization is very nice, especially for something similar to NISA.

          • As a note, I did find out that a couple of the free DLC packs DOES give you free clothes– but also other free packs give a ton of money and highly powerful items, so it all depends on what you want. Though the clothes are a relief since that means my witch isn’t running around in her underwear now.

  • IshimaruKaito

alot of people hated this game…..but honestly i liked it i cant wait for this and hope it gets localized

  • OverlordZetta

Am I reading this correctly? A Compile Heart game abandoning the previous protagonist(s) for a new one?
By god, that’s the thing I hate most about the Neptunia franchise, and here they are making it better! I might just have to pick this up.

  • ivanchu77

Some pics with chou-chou and Shirma

    • KiTA

Second Picture: Breasts do not work that way! o.O

  • RoxasTheUnknown1

Praying we get it. I love Mugen Souls. Any work it couldve used probably will be implemented in this so im worry free.

  • Hidayat246

“……Kenta Sugano is the director and Keiji “Shooting Star” Inafune (not the Inafune from Comcept) is the producer
