What Happened To Bonk: Brink Of Extinction Developer Pi Studios?

By Spencer . January 3, 2013 . 5:46pm

Texas based Pi Studios worked on Rock Band and Call of Duty ports, but were also developing new games for Activision like the unreleased Sing Hero and completed Bomberman Live: Battlefest for Hudson. Pi Studios quietly shut down after Bonk: Brink of Extinction was canceled. Sources explained to Siliconera the game, which would have been released as a digital download for PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 was essentially complete.

Pi Studios shut down in spring 2011, but many employees continued to work together at Oscar Mike Games. The newly formed studio received investment money to create video games for iOS and Android.

Oscar Mike Games quickly developed and released games like Left Bee-Hind HD, Bloxus, My Vampire Boyfriend, and Spell Slingers.

You won’t find any of these games on iTunes or Google Play because unfortunately for all of the former Pi Studios employees Oscar Mike Games closed last summer.

Bomberman falls on Konami as the reason it did not come out. The game was done but was canceled because of what Konami wanted with Hudson. It is sad to see what Konami has done with the Hudson IPs after they officially bought them nothing. Even the new Bloody Roar was canceled.

As for Bonk the game looked promising and I was really looking forward to it. So it is sad it was canceled. Even sadder some one can’t finish the game. So now all the hard work went for nothing.

Wasn’t the new Bloody Roar a hoax?

    • Konami just bought Hudson to get their ip for future things but since hudson made a lot of crap games besides the work they did for nintendo they got shut down

crazy, I remember playing my Turbo Grafix and the hucards

  • PI Studios worked making the Quake Live game for the xbox with id software

Hate when games that are basically complete, can’t get released. ):

  • I played the canceled Bonk at PAX. And while one should not judge a game based on one level’s worth of play time, I’m not that sad it never got released.
