By Ishaan . January 14, 2013 . 9:30am

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have released new artwork and screenshots from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, giving another look at the three new starter Pokémon—Chespin, Fennekin and Froaki—as well as official art for the two new legendaries, Xerneas and Yveltal.

  • Mr. Lloyde

Yveltal looks slightly like..Aura Dragon from BoF IV.

    • Syn

      More like alot

      • sd28

yep must be why i like him so much

  • Nonomino

I must admit I find Xerneas quite elegant.

  • AlteisenX

I see hints of Darkrai in Yveltal

    • Belphegor

For me it looks like someone cross bred a Groudon with an Articuno…

      • Relytgninroht

More like Groudon and Lugia, IMO.

    • TheSwordUser

To me, it looks like a hybrid of Aura dragon from Breath of Fire 4 and some undisclosed bird species (though the shape of these wings remind me of Taokaka’s sleeves)

      • sd28

great now i want breath of fire v again and yes i do mean breath of fire V and not VI

      • zephyrsword

Took my words outta my mouth!

    • Tails the Foxhound

I was going to say that if you peeled Darkrai outwards you would get Yveltal.

  • Brion Valkerion

both legendaries look pretty great. Hopefully the designs this time are solid all around. There were some really, REALLY bad ones (lazy design) in gen 4 and 5.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Yveltal looks like Dark/Dragon or fire/dark can can learn Flying type moves. Xerneas looks like an Steel/Water

  • Klaus00

    Chespin is Fighter/Grass I hope?
Would love another fighter/grass , Breloom is easily one of my favorite Pokemon type

    • Leonardo Duarte

I think it’ll be just like gen 4.

None will have true advantage agains other, I mean the starters. Just like Infernape was fire/fight, Empoleon water/steel (weak agains fight) and Torterra grass/ground (super-efective against fire).

Again, this is what everyone was talking about how about things’ll be now:

      • I was thinking along the lines of poisonous frogs, so I came to the conclusion that it could also be:

        • Leonardo Duarte

I see you point, yet.. I disagree. It’s more probable that they’ll make the old cycle (fire>grass>water>fire) and a “counter clock one” (in this case: psychic>fighting>dark>psychic) .

    • All the base mons have a pure type (single-type). However they might gain some with evos.

  • Yveltal’s pose looks like he’s saying “What!? Come at me bro” lol =^_^=

    • sd28

personnally i think it looks more like charging a beam attack

      • Tails the Foxhound

Yeah, it reminds me of when 4 Tail Kyuubi Naruto charges his chakra cannon.

  • Godman

    Chespin is so adorable X3

    I’m calling him Chesnut

  • Shadowman

Yvetal looks serious. I got a Master ball with your name on it buddy.

    • Solace Shimizu

And then Gamefreak decided to make the Gen VI title legends’ catch rate even higher than Reshram and Zekrom’s 45, which is already absurdly high, and even higher than Dialga and Palkia’s.

      • biskmater

well, they were kind of necessary for the story, so it would have been simply cruel for pokeball usage and battle length if they didn’t let you catch them more easily than others.

      • s07195

What were Groudon and Kyogre’s catch rates?

      • Shadowman

        What were Lugia catch rates?

  • Phantom R

Wow, these look a lot better than the Gen 4 and 5 legendaries. Cool yet not overdone designs.

  • I like the design of Xerneas.

  • Krisi92

New screenshots = old screenshots from the trailer?

    • puchinri

I was thinking that too. Maybe there were more that weren’t added to the article?

  • SetzerGabbiani

    Yveltal is the anti-Lugia.

    • Relytgninroht

You see it too! Except I like Yveltal more than Lucia based solely on design. Was always more of a Ho-oh guy.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

    Isn’t it spelled Ys? /jk
I get this feeling these legendaries feel more closer to nature than at least the previous 2 we’ve had the past two generations

  • komiko12

I prefer these 3D models rather than the ones on Pokedex 3D. :)

  • NTaiyokun

Looking at his second attack in the trailer, Froakie’s gonna evolve into a ninja Jiraya (the frog, not Pervy sage) or something.

    Calling it now.

  • MediaMindControl

Can’t wait to see the evolution of the starters so I can know which one I’ll use. I remember I never liked Snivy, but I chose him anyways for Big Boss aka Sneaky Snake last gen. I have chosen the Grass type every game, but I am really doubting Chespin right now.

  • CirnoLakes

So the new legendary is slenderpony with a rainbow of a friendship on its head.

    • Relytgninroht

      No. It’s a deer. A deer! Haven’t you bronies ruined enough… :(

This was a joke if you couldn’t tell. But seriously, Leave Pokemon Alone!

  • zephyrsword

Yveltal looks like a mash of Wyvern and Aura from Breath of Fire 4. That’s why I want one.

  • Masengan

My friend and I already decided he’s getting X and I’m getting Y. I already called dibs on Fennekin =D.

  • From Yveltal’s looks and the black-red color scheme, is there likelihood he could be a Dark/Flying type?

  • Lazulis

Xerneas is cool. Looks like something Thranduil would ride, haha. Fennekin’s so cute! I hope it’s evolutions are awesome…

  • Relytgninroht

I think the legendaries look a lot better in illustrated form than they do in that CGI clip at the end of the X and Y trailer. Wasn’t really too fond of them there, but i really like them now. Really digging Xerneas, though Yveltal looks pretty badass. Going to be hard to decide on legendary alone…

  • KiTA

Hm. So, my question is this — how in the world are they going to turn THAT into a Fire/Fighting pokemon by the 3rd evolution?

Although having the Sage/Hipster Frog there be a Water / Fighting would be interesting.

  • alundra311

Here’s an image I found on gematsu: http://gematsu.com/gallery/albums/pokemon-x-y/january-14-2013/Pokemon-X-and-Y_2013_01-14-13_010.jpg

Makes me wonder if the arrows mean anything regarding the gameplay in x and y. But then again, it could be just me.

  • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

    Yveltal looks so epic
