An Introduction To Fire Emblem: Awakening’s Character Support Features

By Ishaan . January 16, 2013 . 2:35pm

Fire Emblem: Awakening allows units that are positioned close to each other on the battlefield to fight together and support one another. As your characters fight together, their bond increases, which yields further advantages during battles. Nintendo demonstrated this feature with a new trailer this morning:

What the battle footage doesn’t show is that Fire Emblem: Awakening also has a bunch of options for camera control and/or speeding up battles. One of these is the ability to use a first-person camera while battling.

Fire Emblem: Awakening will be released on February 4th in the U.S. and Europe will get the game in April. A Nintendo 3DS hardware bundle that has the game pre-installed will be available for $200.

  • I’m really curious to see what NoA did with Nn’s support with the Player. Did they alter it or take it out completely?

    • MikeTxn

I kinda doubt they alter it that much. At most I think they changed her age like they did to Lyn on FE7.
I’m more curious about what they did to her name.

      • Lordshade

I’m pretty sure Nn is already around 18-19 years old when you meet her, just like the rest of the future children. Her half-mankete heritage kinda makes her look a bit younger.

    • chroma816

I have good hope that they kept it in, or at least didn’t nerf it entirely; the fact that they actually left in the Japanese audio track makes me think they’re trying to give us the full package.

    • Curan_Altea

      I think they’ll keep it.
If Amelia can be 19 I don’t think appearances matter much.

    • Pockystix

well, I’m sure it’s left in.

Now if there were gay or lesbian supports. . .

      • Curan_Altea

        One step at a time.

    • nothing956

How the hell do you pronounce Nn?

  • Prinnydoom

Every time i read “Europe will get it in april” Its like another kick in the balls. >_< damn i want this bad.

    • lyhthegreat

its better than not getting it at all…

    • dude3991

I’m with you man. There’s not really much excuse for a 2 month delay in this day in age…

      • Arrei

Not even translating the game into several more languages to accommodate the EU market?

        • dude3991

Why do the other translations need to wait until the English one is done? It’s what it seems like anyway. If they were better organised they could translate languages simultaneously and make the delay as minimal as possible.

          • Arrei

Because they only have so much manpower available to do the translating? It’s not like they can just throw resources at a game without any regard for profit margins.

  • Nee Nee

    Monotone voice is monotone.

  • fireemblembeast

Did I see Nono’s name changed to “Nowi” at 1:57?! wtf why is that even necessary? It’s a pretty straightforward name!
It’s gonna be weird to hear it as Nono in the jp dub but read it as “Nowi”….
Seriously, whose idea for a name was that?!

    • Arrei

In all likelihood it might be because “Nono” sounds cute and childish in Japanese but weird as an actual name in English, so they went for something that might be cute in English too.

Maybe she’ll even call herself that as a nickname, like how Tiki would go “Mar-Mar” or “Ban-Ban”.

      • Lordshade

She’s actually more mature than Tiki was, though she DOES like to act childish to improve group morale…

I expect them to tone down the childishness, though, since you can marry her…

  • BJMclain

Is it just me, or does Chrom at about 1:27 sound like Troy Baker?

  • alexff7

So I’m guessing the demo goes live at 12am Pacific time? I wanted to wait up but school is hindering me…I guess I’ll have to download it in the morning and play on the bus

    • You may not be able to do that. The eShop updates around 9am PST on Thursdays, if I recall correctly. Don’t lose sleep waiting for the demo before school. :P

Fire Emblem Union: We’ll Never Fight Alone!

So to confirm, this game does NOT use the support system that Path of Radiance had where units only had to be in the same map to gain support points? If so, that kinda sucks, I really liked that system.

Although I suppose that the greater emphasis on support tactics means that people will put more stress on doing it.

    • Arrei

It’s different from the map supports, but it isn’t the same as the old supports, either.

Support points will increase when fighting paired with another unit, or when fighting with a unit adjacent to you. So it’s not just making sure you end several dozen turns standing next to a unit you want to support, they’ll actually fight together.

i have a feeling this FE will become my favorite FE game

  • Cannot wait for this, but I have no choice till April comes around…
